Just bought a Cooper Arms 57M

I was privileged to be able to purchase a Cooper Firearms Of Montana 57M LVT rifle chambered in .17 HMR from the estate of the father of a friend of mine recently.

I have only shot the rifle a few times but it really is a great shooter (regardless of how I feel about the political leanings of their founder). The rifle has been used and shows some wear marks on the stock and the barrel and I will probably send the rifle back to Cooper for a refurb sometime in the future but currently I plan to use it as a squirrel gun. I am very excited to add this gun to my gunsafe.

Congrats.. they are fantastic rifles. I have a M57 Western Classic with a Kahles 2-7x36 and it will easily shoot under .5 MOA at 50+ yards all day long with Wolf MT 22lr.

I've heard good things about Coopers. Besides being awesome shooters they look great. Post a picture of yours when you get a chance.

Very nice rifle! I believe their founder is no longer with the company, as in fired, or asked to resign. Shoot the hell out of it. If you get to the point where you can shoot as well as it does, you will be very happy.

I believe that Mr Cooper was asked to resign after it became public that he made a $100,000 donation to a certain political campaign. I like having rifles that shoot better than I do...it leaves me no excuses for misses. (post edited by Original poster to remove some mild political references)

Re: Just bought a Cooper Arms 57M

I would hope that Mr. Cooper now wishes he had never made that donation, but my understanding is that the rifle company was more of a fun thing for him, and he has enough money that he does not particularly care.

Re: Just bought a Cooper Arms 57M

Have several Coopers, my M57 HMR shoots as well as the rest.
They are great rifles.

Re: Just bought a Cooper Arms 57M

Like I said...this rifle has been used. Here is the bad stuff:
Nice Leupold scope looks like it had steel wool taken to it:

Trigger guard is scratched

Bolt is worn in a bit

Some marring on the wood

Some more marring on the wood

Some marring on the barrel

On a brighter side I basically bought the scope and the rifle came free, so even if I have to send it back to Cooper Arms for a refurb I should be sitting pretty well with the rifle.

Damage may be from the fact that the previous owner had mobility issues from an accident that occurred several years ago. Nice thing is that I can take a rifle that shoots like a laser beam into the field and not worry about every stick, branch, or rock...you know what they say about the first scratch being the deepest.

Re: Just bought a Cooper Arms 57M

I have all 4 rimfire version Coopers, and they are as accurate as, or better, than my Anschutz 54 sporter. Great rifles 2 good prices for what you get.
