I didn't even know they made one, I may have to check that out.

Re: Just for fun, Henry 17 HMR

i have a .22, and it is the smoothest lever gun you could ever imagine, even smoother than my Uberti Henry reproduction. they shoot great. Mine is the brass receiver, i got it when they first hit the market for $278. 2 years later they were ticking up near 4 bills. Even at current prices thay are great guns.

Re: Just for fun, Henry 17 HMR

Yea thats what I paid unfortunately. It feels real smooth though! I didnt get the brass (golden boy) because it didnt have the scope rail (just in case). But for the brass, Henry makes a special mount, but...you have to drill and tap the barrel to mount it.

Re: Just for fun, Henry 17 HMR

Haven't shot the .17 but was impressed by a buddy's base model .22 Henry. Like folk's have mentioned already the action was very slick. The metal finish was nice and the metal to wood fit was top notch. I didn't shoot any groups but chasing a golf ball with it was a blast. I've pretty much talked myself into getting one, I need it like a hole in the head but WTH.

I'll likely get one, when I do get one, in 22LR or 22WMR. I love the 17 HMR, but this is a plinking/squirrel gun if I ever saw one.

Looks like a good candidate for "son's first gun."

+1

They make a youth model w/16.5" barrel and about shorter LOP too. My Uncle bought one for his grandson. The Carbine is the std. w/a 16.5" and regular LOP.

Re: Just for fun, Henry 17 HMR

Im likely to post some pics after I finally take it to shoot for those who might be curious on how it shoots. There are a few reviews on the 17 but more results cant hurt if you were on the fence about getting one.

A rod, brush and some patches keeps you from exploring a superior caliber?

It's a rimfire plinker for goodness sakes. Drag a $15 bore snake through 2 or 3 times and call it a day.

Re: Just for fun, Henry 17 HMR

I've got a few 22 lever guns. Win. 9422 gradeII Win. 9422 standard grade and a Marlin 39A. Used to have a Win. 9422 XTR 22mag but my dad lent it to a buddy and he carelessly left it out in his truck and someone came along and decided they wanted it more than me. To say the least I have never really got over that one but that's a whole different thread topic.

I've heard the Henry is basicly a 9422 with a steel reciever and everything I have heard about them is they're a great piece.

A 22 lever action was the very first gun of any kind I ever bought. Talked my mom into putting it on her Sears card and she let me make payments on it. Dang, I'm gettin old cause that was almost 30yrs ago this spring.

There is no better fun than plinking and or rat shooting with a lever action rimfire!!!!

Re: Just for fun, Henry 17 HMR

escapeVelocity,

Let us know how your Henry Lever gun works out for you.

Since I picked up a Savage 93 in 17 my dad is thinking about getting a Henry lever action 17 I'm interested in knowing how you make out with yours.

Re: Just for fun, Henry 17 HMR

I just ordered me a Henry 17 with oct.barrel ... I'm already wondering if anyone takes their barrel to a new level.. Should have it within a week, I also own a savage 17, and if the wind ain't blowing bad, 175 yards is well within reach. Don't touch a 17 if you're satisfied with a .22 ... cuz there's no going back (in rifle)
