I read some of the articles, including the survey with the six questions. I get that Mr. Graves wants to disspell the public's suspicions that cops are out to take your guns. The problem with that is there are enough "corrupt" cops out there that *are* taking away guns (along with ca$h & other property items)... enough to make it noticeable and for people to stay "sus" about it. If LE (overall) wants us to stop our distrust of them, they need to clean up their own act and go after the corrupt cops. I mean, a true, full 100% "Zero Tolerance" policy. But I think we all know the likelihood of that. The fruits of that corruption are too great and powerful. And the "good" cops are fearful of "ratting" on the bad ones because they know they may need that bad copy in the dark alley one night as backup.
I especially "liked" the explanation of question 2 in the "What Cops think about the 2A" poll. This, where he says "86% of the respondents did not support more gun control." Then he says, the other 14% will face "Peer pressure" from that 86% to not enforce those gun control laws. Yeah, right! The "peer pressure" is not the problem! It's the "Management" pressure that's the problem. It's the CLEOs, Sheriffs, etc. and other senior management that issue these orders. Because they (Mgt) have to live with and deal with the "politics" of the situation, more so than the avg. "rank and file" LEO. They're the ones that have to face accountability of the elected officials and the public at large. Furthermore, let us not forget the driving mantra of some LEAs (especially in the anti-gun states like NJ, NY etc). "GET WEAPONS OFF THE STREETS!" Be they criminals or law abiding, get weapons off the streets in an effort to control the public more. And what better tools to have than things like "red flag" laws and Civil Asset Forfeiture.
I also read the article on "How to avoid LE taking your guns." While I agree with the items he mentioned, I think he forgot a few.
1) Don't pi$$ off a LEO by asserting your "constitutional rights" when confronted by one, even though you know you should.
2) Don't advertise/publicize your "inventory." Accumulate it slowly (over time) and keep it to yourself. Don't take all of it to the range at once. Take only a few items and rotate them.
3) Use a private "Mom & Pop" FFL (one that operates out of their home) and not one from a huge gun store like Bass Pro/Cabellas, etc. that gets more ATF scrutiny. Buy them from private citizens who will send them to your private FFL. Pay cash when possible. Not a 100% guarantee, but much less of a chance than with a big box shop.
4) Realize that anyone (and especially LE) can petition for an ERPO (Red-flag order) with little or no justification. You might want to plan for "alternate" storage (outside your home), before that happens.
Anyway, my overall summary of this site is that the author is trying to manipualte the public away from their suspicions, but it ain't gonna work until they make the needed efforts to clean their own house... Zero Tolerance for corruption, etc.
