After taking it out of the box, I noticed a few things. The first is that it does have a solid feel to it. It definitely doesn't feel like a cheap POS. The knurling on the knobs is rather fine, sharp even. I'm a little worried that it's fine and sharp enough to snag stuff like clothing.
The reticle is pretty nice, but I don't know what the deal is with the big posts. The reticle kinda looks like that of the FFP reticle with the magnification turned down. Maybe not a big deal, but I just don't see the reason for obstructing that much of the view to accomplish nothing. It really gives the feeling of the SFP model being an after thought and they just threw the reticle in there and did what they had to do to make it work.
On the plus side, some thought did go into the reticle and magnification adjustment ring, in that they should work well together. The graduations in the reticle are in increments of 1MOA. The Magnification ring is marked at 24X, 12X, 8X and 4X. When you reach 12X and 8X, there is a definite "click"letting you know that you are on the setting. On the front side of the mag adjustment ring are markers. At 24X, it is labeled 1X. At 12X, it is labeled 2X. At 8X it is labeled 3X and at 6X it is labeled 4X. These labels correspond with the graduation increments of the reticle at the particular magnification settings. So...at 24X the graduations represent 1MOA. At 12X the graduations represent 2MOA and so on.
The glass seems to be good. It doesn't gather as much light as my 5.5-22X50 Nightforce, but it's pretty close. I'm also seeing a bit better resolution through the NF, but I expected that.
What is driving me nuts is the fiber optic marker on top of the turret which is supposed to line up with the "0" on the turret. Although the edge of the marker does line up with the "0", it is in the cap cocked at an angle.
Still, it's a pretty nice scope. I'll post something after I get it out to the range.
Oh, BTW, it just so happens that a 52mm UV camera filter fits the objective and the sun shade.
