Rifle Scopes *JUST RELEASED* Nightforce NX8 FFP 1-8x24mm 30mm Tube & ATACR F1 1-8x24mm 34mm Tube Models

I think everyone already making assumptions about a scope they haven't seen should probably just wait until it comes out and see it in person, instead of already complaining about something that doesnt yet exist for anyone other than the handful that were part of the testing process.

^ This, but then again, posting incoming juicy tidbits about upcoming stuff is always going to bring out hot and cold speculation... I'm happy with my current 1-6x, but am very curious what, given the fact that they were competing for a SOCOM contract, will bring to the table with necessity being the mother of invention. The focused LED illum tech is very intriguing and could make for some long battery life for their stated brightness. As quoted, we shall wait and see!

Day 1 Shot done. First impressions of the new 1-8 offerings. The NX8 is nice and light. Good brightness and should be daytime visible, though hard to tell from inside the center. The ATACR, absolutely amazing eyebox. Think nearly unnoticeable bezel, like the Vortex Razor HD II 1-6x but with slightly better looking optics. My opinion. Worth the extra cost. I'd take one in a heartbeat, just for that eyebox alone. Everything else is typical Nightforce quality.

ATACR - 21 oz , not a lightweight, but not bad for what it is I guess.
ATAC- eyebox at 1x, one of the best
ATAC- eyebox at 8x, average
ATACR= durability, probably one of the best
ATACR @ 1x = 96.1 Ft. , small, not even close to being class leading, it is what it is.
FOV @ 8x = 13.1 Ft., same as above
ATACR reticle doesn't really come into its own until 400yds
It will not really outperform other top tier LPV's until you are out at 400 yds, but if shooting a lot at or beyond 400 yds with a 14.5 or 16" inch AR, I would prefer using a larger caliber than 5.56 .

Guys,

Latest delivery update - things are going well now with production, but we should still expect another week or two until they ship. As soon as I see a shipping notice, I will post it ;)

Both looked great in person and I am sure no one will be able to complain about it being daylight visible :ROFLMAO: Pretty amazing though how invisible the ATACR seemed - you pulled it up and a reticle just appeared in front of you:eek:

That’s great news. I think I have found the optic for my SCAR 17S.

Gents. I've spent a good bit of time behind one. The most impressive aspect of this optic is using it at short range. When the rifle is mounted, I felt like I was looking through a red dot. That's incredible to achieve and they've nailed it. Glass clarity is excellent stands out over the old... Its not even close. This is the new standard in 1-8s.

Which model?

Does the ATACR version have zerostop turrets under the cap?
no it does not, i saw a post saying it includes thread protectors to use uncapped and is still rated the same waterproof wise. no zero stop though

Managed to have a blat through a NX8 mounted on a .223.
Build quality and finish = excellant.
Size and weight = excellent and surprisingly compact.
Glass quality = resolution quite good but colour contrast very flat.
Reticle = very useful at different ranges.
Illumination = The levels are really daytime bright (same or brighter than H2 aimpoint).
Ease of use @ 1x = still not as easy to quick sight as an aimpoint. Eyebox is still required to be setup correctly for you.
Personally I liked the NX8 but the lack of colour contrast puts me off - keep in mind that is to my eyes only with -10.5 corrected vision.

Interested to how much better the ATACR version glass is.

Holy moly the NX8 is Aimpoint bright! Bravo Nightforce... I don't have the best eyesight but I think there's a negligible amount of magnification, decent turrets, the eyepiece is small but so is the whole scope which makes it a winner IMO. Difficult to get a decent pic of the illumination, but trust me it's plenty bright. Order here http://bit.ly/2ohdFoo or call 916.670.1103

I was going to get the Nightforce ATACR 1-8x24 F1 but having owned a Swarovski Z6i brt in the past I am going to just get the Swarovski Z8i brt because it is still the best out there. Has perfect glass and at 18.1 ounces hard to beat.

Best out there to who, and for what? I'm pretty sure the target market for the NX8 and ATACR 1-8 is .mil/LE. I don't see many photos of guys overseas running Swaros on their working rifles, or CONUS on LE patrol rifles. Pretty sure that there will be plenty of photos of NF 1-8s in both settings as production starts to ramp up. I'd take an ATACR over the Swaro any day of the week for work use. I'll have two NX8s riding on my work guns shortly, you know, because they are the best out there.

For the guys getting the NX8's in please comment on the brightness of the illumination. I know some have already said it was daylight bright but more eye tests confirm the brightness. Thanks.

Anyone taking delivery from Eurooptic?

Mine is coming from EuroOptic, UPS is scheduled to deliver it tomorrow afternoon.

Yes, 100% daylight bright.

Identical to the NF 4-16x44 ATACR basically.
@Fenix Mike, could you possibly elaborate on this further? I've looked at NF's site and I guess this is just saying you'd rather have their ZeroStop tech (which I understand it's function) on the ATACR before you purchase, so it's somewhat of a deal breaker? Isn't their current design particularly geared towards duty-use since these are born of the SOCOM contract needs? Also, I saw elsewhere in this thread that there's evidence that this feature you speak of may be coming soon apart from these new offerings?

Thanks in advance and my bad if I missed a post directly answering this...

It’s all about right info. I placed my order from opticsplanet back to January. But I got a info from another group, I called sport optics on 2/21 and on 2/22 my scope was already on the way to me.

Well, I took the optic out for a quick spin today to zero at 100 yards. It was COLD COLD COLD, so I only fired 20 rounds for zero. I had intended to shoot much longer, both on the long range steel field and also doing some stuff in a 50 yard bay, but the temp and winds were not cooperating. So, here's my brief initial impression:

I like it.

The illumination is fantastic. The eye box is fine up until about 7x, then you've got to be perfect or the image clarity goes to shit. The glass is not as good as the Razor Gen II, but I'll take the size and weight savings of the NF over the better glass in the Razor. I didn't really notice the glass until around 5x, then I felt the Razor was better. At 8x the image in the NF really started to degrade. Not enough that it wasn't usable, but I'd rather shoot on 7x and have a better image. At 1x it was a wash, and the illuminated dot centered up just as fast for me when mounting the rifle from low ready regardless of whether I was looking through the Razor or the NF. Turrets are standard NF quality, so no complaints there. The reticle is nice, not too thick at 8x to be unusable on small targets. The center dot seems to be a tad under 2MOA. I plan on going out again tomorrow to bang some steel out to 600 with it, and then do some close up drills later on.

Comparison pics vs. my Razor. Didn't take any reticle photos, I'll try for those tomorrow also.

Great review! Keep in mind the NX8 is based off the NXS glass, the ATACR will have the significantly higher quality ED glass. The Razor 1-6 is more of a comparison to the ATACR in my opinion due to size, glass etc, where as the NX8 was more of an answer to those who wanted a do-it-all super light and compact scope that could reach out to 8x as needed, but do wonderful at 1x and mid magnification. Did you order an ATACR as well?

I think most people will compare the Razor 1-6 to the NX8, and save the ATACR comparisons for other top-tier 34mm optics such as the Leupold CQBSS, Minox ZP8, and S&B Short Dot. The Razor and NX8 are sorta in the same ball park price-wise, while the ATACR is not, and lets face it, $$$ is probably the #1 factor when most people are buying optics.

I have played with the ATACR quite a bit, and I'll have one shortly, but I went with a pair of NX8s first. Hoping the 2nd of the two shows up soon.

I also appreciate your take @KimberGuy, thanks!

I'm hoping that in a way the ATACR knocks the Razor 1-6x 'out the box, if for nothing else similar or better clarity through the range + FFP, but perhaps not. First thing I'll verify when I have all three is that the ATACR's glass can hang solid pegged at 8x, the rest is icing as a few ounces and size (within the spec'ed envelope) do not drive my personal preference. But for over 2x for what the Razor costs street, I'll bet a whole lotta folks looking beyond the NX8 are expecting the ATACR to blow their tits off.
