KAC Mod 1 or KAC LPR??

Im debating on getting the Mod 1 or the LPR right now. I really dont want an 18inch barrel, however if the accuracy gain is huge I would reconsider.
So what kind of groups do you get out of the Mod 1? LPR??

I the legacy SR-15 E3. The only things different on the Mod 1 is the sights (micro), rail (URX 3.1), and charging handle (LMT). Expected accuracy is about 1.25". I have an XPS3-0 on mine. Never felt the need to put a glass on it to see what exact MOA it will shoot but I'm certain mine will shoot at least that.

The LPR uses different type of barrel (Krieger I believe) and supposedly sports better accuracy.

If you intend on using it for precision, I'd go 18".

Otherwise go Mod 1, especially since you have a LMT MWS.

If it means anything, KAC is having supplier problems from Kreiger for the barrels for the LPR. Hopefully, they will work it out soon, however, I received this info directly from KAC.

I went with a mod 1 for exactly that ^ reason.... my mod 0 has been a solid rifle.

get in on that group buy with cmdecker (great prices).

I just ordered an SR-15 LPR from Lawmen's last week and they mentioned the same situation to me. I don't think it is due to any problem between Krieger and KAC though. I went to the Krieger website and it is showing up to an 8-month lead time on barrels right now....so I'm not expecting to see my LPR until mid- to late-summer at the earliest.

I ordered an LPR on the group buy and was warned of the krieger barrel supply problem. Despite this, I was told I should still get my rifle by March. Not to bad all things considered. I currently have a mod 1 build but I suspect the LPR will be much lighter.

Thought we were talking MK12 mod 1 initially. sorry for the confusion and PM sent. The mod 1 will be lighter but I doubt you will be disappointed with the weight of the LPR.

I currently have a mod 1 and a lpr. both rifles are amazing! the test target that was shot with the lpr came in at .56. the shop I purchased it at had two in stock at the time, grabbed the one with smaller group other was .8 something if memory serves correct. mod one is a good shooter at 100 yards but haven't shot for groups. guess a little side by side is in order if time allows.

The KAC LPR is on my short list. Never had a precision .223 set up before, might be fun. I thought about a JP CTR-02, but will prob. go with the LRP.

I'm def. going to Lawmen's soon.

thanks vipers28 was starting to get a little frustrated, was reading another thread trying to figure that out.

OK to the op, the LPR is very accurate, have some more pics of barrel contour if needed. krieger barrel has a straight bull profile under rails that stops at gas block,and is smaller after block. not heavy, not light it feels very well balanced. the MOD1 is very light profile barrel, light wight rifle. I do find myself reaching for LPR more often given current ammo prices, slow fire small groups vs. seven yard drills with high round counts.

I was on the fence but went for the MOD1 before the craze hit.

If I have my way I'll pick up an LPR though. I had a Match a few years ago and have kicked myself in my ass for selling it ever since so grabbing up an LPR makes perfect sense.

What kind of groups does the Mod 1 and the LPR shoot? I like both rifles but can't afford both. I can hardly afford one of them right now. I'm leaning towards the Mod 1 just because I like 16inch barrels and of course it's cheaper. But if its not accurate enough I will opt for the LPR.

Nice rifles.

Out of curiosity, have you mic'ed the test target to see if it actually measures out correctly? It may just be an artifact of the photo, but that just doesn't *look* as small as .569, measuring center-to-center.

I've got an older SR15E3, but personally the standard Mod 1 would be my choice between the two. I've handled both models side by side, and the weight difference is enormous to me. The Mod 1 feels lighter and easier to bring on target than my SR15, but the LPR is just too front heavy for my taste. I have no doubt that it shoots better than the standard barrels, but then again I have no reason to shoot them for precision purposes - it's a run-and-gun platform for inside of 400 yards or so.

Thanks, kinda went on a KAC bender this year, it all started with the Mod 1. I was so impressed with it. I had not measured the group myself until you brought it up. It is definitely the photo and much to my surprise its measuring closer to .50 center to center

what do you consider accurate enough? It would help to know what role you want this rifle to fill.

Well for this kind of money I would want the Mod 1 to shoot well under 1moa. I have a Rock River AR that shoots about 1/2 MOA and the price tag was much less then this.

I would be using this gun for a variety of things. Like coyote hunting, target shooting, CQB drills, even banging steel at 500 yards or so.

Hands down the KAC rifles are the nicest looking I've ever seen, they have all the bells and whistles and i don't need to add anything to them except for an Optic. (Red dot or a 1-4). So I would really like to get one. But if they can't pull tight groups then all the other things are pointless. I've been looking for reviews and I'm having a hard time finding out how accurate they are.

+1 Having shot mine plenty it is not well under 1MOA, it is a chrome lined, light weight combat rifle, not a precision rig.
It sounds like you have what you want in your sub MOA RRA. Your list of uses can all be achieved with one rifle however you will have to compromise somewhere with it speed, weight, size' or accuracy.

Mod-1 is not designed for exceptional accuracy it is combat accurate. Not a paper puncher. Also if you feed it hand loads that it likes it will do pretty good, but again it is meant to shoot combat accuracy and has a light thin profile barrel. If you want 1" or less at 100 yards it's not for you.

For my MOD1 I'm not expecting accuracy like I would if I had bought an LPR. Like mentioned already, different rifle, different purpose, different barrel and supposedly different chamber.

I finally ordered an optic for it yesterday. I was on the bubble between a Leupold VX-R 1.25-4x20 Patrol and a Prisimatic Tactical, I opted for the Prisimatic. The MOD1 just needs a dot of sorts for me.

When I pick up an LPR I'll then go for a variable, 1.8-10, 2.5-10 or 3.5-10.

I know this is a old thread but I feel compelled to comment on the Mod 1's accuracy since I own three of them. I recently had them all out but all I had was Federal AE223 50gr tipped varmint and some PMC Xtac 62gr. The accuracy of all three rifles astonished me. My prior experience with xtac 62gr is that it is very accurate ammo considering it is commerciall produced, it and the AE223 grouped identically just a slight POI shift. I shot numerous groups with each rifle with each type of ammo once I discovered how accurate these things are. One rifle shot 1/2MOA consistently with both types of ammo, 5 shots, at 100 yards. With cheap ammo it was shooting as well as my AI AX was with FGMM. The other two were right on 3/4MOA with both types of ammo. Surprisingly the barrels also hold there accuracy for far longer than you would expect with this light of a profile. I was able to hold this accuracy for 10 rounds with no discernible difference in accuracy.

I'll take this accuracy any day of the week from a chrome lined barrel AR. I've owned dozens of AR's and I can count on one had the AR's I've had that shot like this and these three rifles take up three spots on that hand. The other two was one of my LMT MRP's and the RRA Varmint I had. I've also had some 308 gas guns that shot great but I'll leave them out since we're talking about 5.56 here.

While I don't doubt that some Mod 1's aren't going to shoot like this I think the fact that I bought three and they all do is a good sign as to what most of them are capable of. Most see low or no magnification use from day one so a lot of people aren't going to notice it. I'm curious myself and strap some magnification on everything I buy to see what it's capable of. From the time I purchased my first Mod 1 I wanted a LPR but they were all going for $3000+ which was more than I wanted to spend. I still want a LPR but my reasonable side is questioning whether or not I need one when I have one Mod 1 that shoots 1/2moa with mediocre ammo.

My Knights LPR shoots 1 inch groups at 300 yards with American Eagle Ammo. Crazy Accurate in my opinion. Favorite AR I own, and I have too many

No one has better CS than KAC. They go above and beyond. I have a KAC LPR and love it. I also have a 14.5 carbine upper headed this way. Should be here in a week or so. It's a battle carbine upper so I don't expect the same accuracy out of iras the LPR.

Glad you like your rifle. There are companies out there who far exceed thier customer service though.

About a year ago I needed some screws for a RAS I bought used and was missing the screws. I called knights, told them I bought a used one that was missing screws and they sent them free of charge. You can't beat that.

Fast forward to last week, I was looking at JP low mass carriers and I couldn't figure out what all I needed to run one. So I called JP to ask them and the guy I got was irritated that a customer that was about to spend $500 on a BCG and a buffer had questions about the application. His first response after I explained why I was calling was "it's all on the website" even though I told him I didn't understand and that's why I was calling. The call went downhill from there when my reply was "well no fucking shit sherlock, why do you think I'm calling"? I'm not very impressed with their customer service when all I was asking is which buffer I need, and do I have to run a special gas block?
