I'm looking for a new scope for my Tikka T3 Sporter in .260 Remington. I've been reading a lot about scopes and it sounds like either the Kahles or the Steiner would fit the bill great for my needs, and they seem very similar overall. Dvor.com has a promotion on the Steiner right now, at $3250 with $850 credit (i.e, $2400 Steiner 5-25x56mm Rifle Scope w/ Illuminated Reticles 5550, 5525. Steiner Riflescopes.[]=2179-0-817281), and there is a nice looking Kahles available in the for sale section of the forum for ~$2800. Anyone done any head to head comparisons between the two ? They seem very similar overall. It sounds like the new Kahles might have better glass, and the MSR-K seems a slight improvement over the MSR, but not sure if thats worth $400. My budget is <$3000, and I'll need new rings too.

I have not examined either, but just generally speaking, my opinion is that Kahles products are in a higher class of optics than Steiner. Steiners are good. Kahles are great, easily world class. BB

Spend the extra 400. You'll be glad that you did. I've got both and I like the Kahles MSR as a better all purpose reticle. It pops good against a dark background yet still fine enough to where it doesn't cover too much of the target. Your friendly Snipers Hide optical dealer might be able to save you even more if you contact them ;-)

Its weird - lots of people love the Kahles, but there are a few who keep complaining of CA and parallax problems. Ilya seemed to run into it too when he reviewed this scope (High End Tactical Scopes, Part IV: The Heavyweights » OpticsThoughts), but even he seems to like Kahles overall, so I am willing to give them a shot :). It could hardly be worse than the Millet I am shooting right now.

Thanks for the heads up Chris; sent you a PM.

Never had a problem with a Steiner. My stainers have had better glass than my Kahles. Some Kahles have bugs.

My vote is for Steiner!

You will like the turrets on the Kahles much better as well as the parallax adjustment. I own the Kahles but have had them side-by-side many times. The Kahles is just a better scope IMO, and the MSR-K is a nice improvement over the standard MSR in the Steiner. Spend the extra cash, it's worth every penny.
