Suppressors Kahr PM9

Re: Kahr PM9

I owned and carried one for quite some time. Great size if you have to dress up for business and/or events. Had a little pocket holster and just slide it into it.

Shoots real nice and very managable.

Depending on price it is worth buying.

Re: Kahr PM9

make sure there are at least 200 rounds through it for break in, then carry away. mine has been 100% dependable. very accurate for such a small package, once you get past the long DA trigger.

I use a pocket hoster, or a tuckable High Noon - it just disappears under a t or polo shirt

Re: Kahr PM9

I had issues with mine for the first few hundred rounds. Sent it to kahr. They replaced the slide, barrel, and recoil spring. The whole break in is a pain. A carry pistol should be ready to go from the factory. Once it is broken in you will be happy.

Re: Kahr PM9

I love mine! 100% reliable right out of the box! There have been issues with them, and as far as my knowledge of them goes, Kahr is very responsive in having it taken care of right away!

Personally I can't imagine a better carry gun! ok maybe the PM40 but the size of this thing makes it just disappear! I can wear it all day long with zero discomfort! I never have to adjust it while wearing it, in fact the only thing I ever have to mess with is checking to make sure its still there!

It's going to be real hard for me this next fall/winter when it's time to switch to a more powerful pistol!! Neither of my larger carry guns compare in carry comfort to the PM9.

Only odd thing of note is read the manual! They specifically tell you to chamber the first round with the slide release rather then a slingshot action of the slide. Amazingly it can and does make a difference!

Re: Kahr PM9

Another +1 for the Kahr PM9. Like everyone says, it is easily concealed in a pocket holster. I got mine already broken in from a friend (used) and have had zero issues.

A word of caution: DO NOT push the trigger pin out! I did to see how it worked and spent about 3 hours cussing to get the spring loaded and back in place with all the other pieces.

Re: Kahr PM9

Excellent carry/backup weapon.Irun the PM40 it's just a tempermental as the PM9 during break-in,but after it is smooth as 20 year old whiskey!! KAHRS are like women you have to break them in right then spankem like you own them!!

Re: Kahr PM9

BigDKC... Looks like you have some old-school black talon's in your mag You know Winchester still produces a version of that bullet, but further developed?

Re: Kahr PM9

Nice Catch! I still have 3 boxes left!

I did not realize there was a newer version! I thought they dropped them completely.. I haven't been replacing them do to the current cost per box these old things are fetching, but love the performance! Do you have a link to the newer ones?? And thank you for the heads up!

Re: Kahr PM9

I run a PM40, and have experienced the same as stated above. Run 200 or so rounds through it, and you'll be good. And with a small pistol like this for carry, everyone should run a lot of rounds through it for the practice. I've run easily over 1K rounds through mine, and all of a sudden started having problems extracting and feeding. I called Kahr, and they said that I had worn out the slide spring and they sent me a new one. Once installed, I was up and running like before. I highly recommend their pistols.

Mind you this is LE ammunition- nothing wrong with civilians owning and shooting it, but winchester restricts sales to law enforcement. So if you're not LE or military, but you know someone who is, you can get as much of it as you want. Sells for around $30/box of 50 as I recall- haven't bought any for my .40 in a couple years... I should replace it soon.

They no longer have the teflon coating--- which really wasn't of that much value anyway, and now it's bonded so the jacket doesn't separate from the lead core.

Good stuff- there have been some reviews on it recently; search it out; Winchester Ranger SXT.

Re: Kahr PM9

How much are you getting the pistol for? That could make this an easy choice

I just bought a brand new PM9 and a used Glock 26 two weeks ago. I took both to the range for the first time and shot them together. I am really in love with the trigger on the Glock 26...are all Glock triggers like this?

Back on topic, my PM9 jammed a few times in the first 200 rounds but it seemed like a magazine issue - cartridges were going nose-down in the magazine. Makes me worried that it isn't as simple as a 200 round break-in. It did not do this in rounds 201 through 250, although at that point I switched to a mix of 147gr Remington Golden Saber factory and hand loads (I had been using Winchester white box 115gr).

Another issue I have is the magazines do not fall out of the pistol on their own, you have to remove them manually. I remember reading that this can be fixed by polishing the mags but it is sticking a good deal and I'm not sure if this will do it.

Finally like others mentioned, the trigger pull is very long which made it harder to shoot rapid fire accurately...at least when I compared it to the Glock 26. I wish the G26 was as thin as the PM9, thin really is sexy in these pistols!

Overall I personally think even with all these issues the PM9 is a better carry pistol than the G26. I figure as long as I practice more and get used to the issues the PM9 does have I'll be good to go. Since I will be carrying it way more than having to shoot it, the weight and size reductions compared to the G26 make it a winner.

Re: Kahr PM9

I bought a pm9 from Bud's probaly 6 months ago. It is crazy how accurate this tiny pistol is. It shoots as accurate as my Kimber does. It is my favorite pistol by far. Check out the Crimson Trace trigger guard laser for it--it's sweet. Mitch Rosen also makes a really nice itb leather holster for it that will not break the bank. Roughly 75 rounds thru mine so far with no jams.

Re: Kahr PM9

I have carried a Kahr P9 in an Alessi IWB holster daily for about 8 yrs. It has been the most comfortable weapon I have ever carried and accurate too. The PM9 was just to small for my hand and didn't feel comfortable with it.

Re: Kahr PM9

PM9 is a quality pistol. It is one of the thinnest full caliber (9mm or larger) pistols that shoots accurately. The thickness of the pistol is one of the most important dimensions that effect comfort of care, and ease of concealment. I agree with break-in period of about 200 rounds, but afterward it is very reliable with various ammo. Caution to reassembly it carefully as the polymer is not as durable as Glock and you can damage it with the slide. Over time the slide does get a little loose, but it does not seem to affect accuracy because of the metal rails. Overall, I think it is a better quality pistol than many other pistols in it's category such as KelTec PF9, but it also costs more. CrimsonTrace also makes a laser sight for it.

Re: Kahr PM9

Just make sure to read the instruction manual. ABSOLUTELY NO RELOADS. A real close friend learned the hard way, but Kahr's customer service had a new pistol out to him within a week.

Re: Kahr PM9

A good friend of mine, LE officer/instructor/Marine, etc. Loves his and raves about the fit, finish and accuracy of his pm9. He's sent more than a few offhand at 25 yard, 3 inch group pictures to brag.

As for "break in". Why is it so hard for guys to understand that a new group of machined parts needs a short amount of time to wear together to ensure reliability?

Re: Kahr PM9

I've got a P9 which I can comment on. It hides real easy and it's really accurate, with the high end tactical ammo it shoots 2" groups at 25 yards all day long--probably better if someone else was shooting it.

Issues: the magazine on Kahrs is the weak link. For some reason, the geometry of the mag as it goes into the gun causes the rounds to feed up into the chamber at a very steep angle. If you ease the slide forward on a fully loaded mags, a lot of Kahrs won't chamber the round. Course, you're not supposed to do that anyway, with any auto. At full speed it feeds great.

And for some reason, the rounds seem to come out of the magazine when you keep a spare mag in your pocket. This sounds kind of retarded, but it's true. Also the Kahrs eat recoil springs super quick. Also, Kahr used to say you can't run gold dots in them, but that's all I use and they run fine.

Anyway--with my 7 round mags and every type of ammo, my p9 has gone bang every time except with Wolf ammo it started getting light primer hits after 500-800 rounds. I figured out the firing pin channel was dirty, cleaned it and the light primer hit problem went away. Now going on about 2000 rounds into it, very hideable. It seems to hate the factory 8 round mags, though, no matter what ammo I use.

Long winded way of saying they're great, but a bit more finicky than some other guns. Not 1911 finicky, not to say you can't get them to run 100% all day, but require more upkeep than glock sig etc. You gotta keep them clean, detail strip every 750 rounds or so, and replace springs every 1000 rounds, max. Hope that helps.

Re: Kahr PM9

Further note, sorry:

Despite the fact the the owners manual says you shouldn't, I slingshot the gun everytime to chamber a round. I'm not going to own a gun I have to go through some goofy-ass process to load. Anyway, I do that and it's been fine, like I said, for 2k rounds. You do have to make sure the slide has some velocity on it, though as I said above.

Also, my mags drop free just fine.

Just data points.

Care to elaborate on that and share some more details on what happened? I shoot reloads through mine and have had no problem, you could screw up a load and damage any gun out there, not sure why you are saying Kahrs are any different. Every gun owners manual says not to use reloads, it's a CYA thing.

Every manual says that, it's to cover their own ass. There is NOTHING wrong with shooting WELL PREPARED reloads. That close friend of your's I'd almost guarantee was running his loads out of spec.

Re: Kahr PM9

CW9 - right out of the box, cleaned, lubed with slide glide, worked slide a bunch, and out to the range.

Long trigger pull, different but smooth. Shots 1-3: hi, low, low then 4 grouped less than a quarter on the bullseye once I acquired the pull. At 10yrds

Very impressed and outstanding accuracy - IMO. Only one malf, FTF - didn't seat all the way, slapped the rear and was GTG. it was my fault since Kahr stated it is best to use the slide stop to release, not to rip slide.

All other rounds/mag changes/etc were 100%. Well worth the money.
