Hunting & Fishing Kentucky Coyote Hunting

Hey all,
I'd like to do some coyote hunting in central Kentucky and am wondering 2 things:

1) Where might be a promising WMA in the area where I might go scout for coyote?

2) Would anyone like to join a coyote newbie (actually a hunting newbie - my first hunt will be a squirrel hunt this Saturday!)? I have no clue what I'm doing as far as scouting/calling is concerned, so this is fair warning, but I am eager to learn the ropes. I like to shoot and I'm serious about it.

I am a hunting newbie by any definition, though it seems that I am poised to take shooting to its logical conclusion: hunting. I'm psyched about it and would love to go with someone who might give a bit of direction and company.

I'm going somewhere with or without you! So why no join and have a good laugh at my expense.

I've heard that coyote hunting is great fun, and perhaps the most challenging of game because of their super-high intelligence.

Now if I can just find where they are . . .

Re: Kentucky Coyote Hunting

Take a walk in the woods with a .22 for plinkin' squirrels. Along the way, look for coyote tracks & scat in obvious places (dirt roads, trails, muddy spots). You may even hear them howl early & late. Enjoy your squirrel shoot & keep note of any coyote sign you may find...

Once you've got a general area narrowed down with good sign present, sneak in there quietly early or late in the day when the coyotes are most likely to respond. Keep the wind in your face, sit down and call sparingly with a good ol' distress sound. Give it two series, then sit quiet for 5 minutes & repeat as necessary for 30 minutes. Be prepared for action, 'cause you may just get piled on!

good luck & keep us posted...

Excellent. It seems a very good idea to scout while squirrel hunting. I'm going tomorrow in fact. I'll look, but I don't think
