I have most of my kit to include rifles and handguns and picked up some ammo since my reloading was left back home in Alaska. Looking for someone(s) to get some shooting done. I know nothing of the area but two ranges, one is closed to new members and the other is quite expensive, there is no public land here! So, if you are in the Lexington area, close to Lexington or a drive, would love to get some time on the trigger.

It would be a bit of a drive but you could try Knob Creek Gun Range...

9 am - 6 pm
Closed Tuesdays 502-922-4457
1 mile off of Dixie Hwy. Louisville Ky.

Re: Kentucky Hiders, when do we shoot?

Thanks, I know of a few ranges around Lex...very restrictive, exclusive, one will not accept new members and the rest must be a member, one said you must be invited by a current member, nothing like ranges back home or open public land in Alaska that I could just drive to and shoot out to 1000+. I was hoping for Ky hospitality that a Hider in the Lex area or Ky in general would show me around. I talked to one ol boy who said he shoots at a farm, said he has several LR sticks, we got to talking and he basically gave me the cold shoulder when I mentioned I was new to the area and was looking for someone and a place. Not what I thought would happen when moving here.

Thanks

Realize that the "cold shoulder" feeling you get is likely quite normal for anyone asking to do what you are wanting to do. Most of us with farms would like to keep them. Inviting over unknown people to do high risk activities is usually a good way to lose the farm you have busted your ass to keep.

That's not to say that you are a bad person at all, just that you are new to the area and wanting to partake in activities which could put the sponsor at risk. It's not fair (I agree), but it's unfortunately the reality of the current times.

There is a free 100yd range in Crittenden, KY (bout an hour from you), but it's only 100yds and you have to shoot through conduit to keep idiots from shooting over the berm. The other ranges I know about have already been listed (Wilmore, Knob Creek). There are several other small ranges scattered about, but most offer less than 200yds.

If I were you, I'd be finding some farmers and getting to know them. You are right in the middle of tobacco season.... Perhaps offer to help out a few days in exchange for some trigger time? Be a good way to get in the door, and being from AK I assume you are not afraid of work?
