No because I’m using the velocity that the labradar gave me and that’s what’s driving the kestrel to give me my dope.

If you plug in the chrono speed into the kestrel and it gives you dope for 300, and you adjust your zero off that dope, you are truing the MV at 300.

2. I know the offset (this barrel/lot of bullets doesn’t have one) so it’s dead nuts at 100 even after being dialed in at distance.

He’s just telling a different lie to the kestrel than we are.

His lie: I’m zero’d at 100 and your data lines up with my real world at 300.

Our lie: This is the muzzle velocity.

Same shit. Different way of going about it. But we will be dead center at 100 when we spin turret to “0”. He may not be.

Sort of, but not in the way you’re thinking. I’m trying my dope to the MV and not the other way around which is what some folks here are recommending be done.

Exactly. The times when it doesn’t line up with 300 and 100 exactly to the kestrel, you have to know what the offset is.

You’ve still manipulated the kestrel.

All I’m pointing out, is explain what you’re doing before you say “don’t mess with MV, just BC” as most people will assume you are using a 100yd zero. Which you are not.

Context is key. Your method works, but it’s not what most here are doing and can’t read your mind when you make simple statements.

I would think, most PRS shooters want a dead solid 100 yard zero... at least everyone I’ve ever shot with.

FWIW, when we put a 1min/<.3 or less target into our PRS match,
it is <300y

Funky offsets can over complicate these— but everyone is free to do whatever that want..

Doping the rifle to 300 yards only pulls out the errors that can be made of not seeing trends at 100 yards. 300 yards is not nearly far enough to be truing BC at all. If you don’t believe me, pull out your kestrel and see how far you have to change your BC to make ANY negligible difference at 300, it would be a huge change. This process SOLELY removes some of the errors and lack of information that comes from shooting at 100 and calling it good.

Too many guys discount the effects of light on their zero and wonder why they are off at distance. I’d wager at least a few people here zero’d in heavy sunlight, or a mirage boil, and now think they need to true a few tenths at distance when in reality they just have a bad zero.

He does the same thing as everyone who is changing MV to line up inside 600. He just lies to the software to keep the MV the same as his chrono reads. Other people lie to the software with a different MV to make the dope work. Either way, unless the velocity from chrono AND the dope line up exactly the same up until the point where BC takes over as the main issue, you’re lying to the software to make it work.

Pick where you want to tell the lie.

Who in the hell would tweak BC at 300????????

If someone doesn’t know how to zero they should not be in the conversation in the first place...

If 100 is problematic and the shooter is having optical issues further distance will be worse.. more optical and some environmental + long range zero shifts for station...

This is unfortunately, some of the worse advice I have seen in some time.

fine I’ll simplify for you. Zero your rifle at 100 and tweak BC at distance. Do not true your MV, that’s what chrono’s are for.

You realize that is exactly not what Litz that you quoted in your article says to do?

+/-1% error is 50fps difference in chrono data, keep doing you, despite what the experts say.

Kestrel says true MV, Hornady says true MV, AB says true MV, top shooters say true MV.

To funny, I'm glad I had people to guide me down the correct path.
