I’ve got a question about backing up my data.

Currently I keep a hard copy of all the data entered in the ‘Gun Profile’ page within the Kestrel Ballistics App. In addition to that I log the muzzle velocity truing range and “trued muzzle velocity”.

If I were to ever loose my profiles...

Would creating a new gun profile with the previously entered data and trued muzzle velocity be all I need to do?

Currently shooting factory federal gold medal match which there is a custom curve for. In addition to this I’m located in the north east so truing DSF is difficult at best.

I think I have the same question...

I need to download the new OS patch and will have to backup guns having suffered the loss of all my profiles during the last OS upgrade.

Not a technology guy so I use the optical cable and an old laptop that is for other than work, finances and other sensitive comms I dont want susceptible to hacking.

As a Kestrel newb Im expecting I can create myself a profile/file on the AB site and backing up rifle profiles is just a matter of pulling them over from the Kestrel than pulling them back in after the update if the data is lost.

or....

Is it a manual log?

I keyboard enter the profiles in as currently entered in my Kestrel than after updating I use my logged profile to again manually enter the information back into the Kestrel?

I just keep the parameters, mv, sight height, BC(if not using cdc), etc etc written down for each rifle.

If something catastrophic happens, that’s all you need to do, just make a new profile with the same parameters.

Free.

easy.

Tracking the apps. I’m really moving toward a minimalist / hard date copy. Hoping Kestrel will get back to me with an answer and I’ll update the thread. Thinking it through I hard data with the trued muzzle velocity and one of the applied ballistic specific custom drags should be all I need to repopulate... where I think issues could arise is if someone trued muzzle velocity then moved on to DSF. If they did DSF I don’t know how you’d enter that back in the kestrel after loosing it.

For dsf, go into your software, write down the current environmentals. Then write down your drop/dope for he ranges you want to use for your DSF.

If a catastrophic situation arises, go into kestrel, set the environment the same and lock it. Then go into dsf and enter those numbers.

Since your data and dsf was already true on the profile, you will be using the trued profile predictions to calibrate the dsf on the new profile.

The profile loader I linked saves everything, DSF included. I get trying to go minimal but the solution already exists.

@TacticalDillhole Been looking more into this and downloaded on a PC tonight. If I get AB Analytics is this redundancy? Also will AB Analytics allow me to use the dongle? I’ve got a usb cord on order and just curious.
