Why does the Kestrel Ballistics Link app have the MV temp table but it doesn’t appear to be used in the actual profile of the gun in the kestrel?
I'm not quite sure I fully understand the question. If you populate the MV Temp table in a profile on the Kestrel Ballistics app, it should transfer over to the Kestrel. However you still may have to turn ON the MV Temp table on the Kestrel to actually have it use these values.
Are you populating the MV Temp table and then they are not transferring over?
The only thing I can think is you don't have MV Temp ON and/or Environment set to Live. Also make sure you have multiple points entered. If you have only 1 point or 2 that are fairly close together, the response may not be that good outside of those 2 temperature points.
I’ll double check all that and I have 5 temps at 48 degrees separation.
When will the Berger 7mm 195gr EOL be added to the bullet library, so we can use the custom curve?

You called it, the table was off. must have reset when i did the firmware upgrade.

Hi, how do you find this link with the version changelog? I always search on the kestrel site for the changelog information but so far I never found it. Only via google and than got a link in a forum like yours.

Yup, it was a search for something like 'kestrel firmware change log' or similar. I think I had found it on their site once, but for the life of me,mI could not recall where,msomresorted to a search.
I put 1.23 on last night, and while I can't say that I have seen a device that updated this slowly in the last 15 years or so, it went in OK, but did wipe out everything on the Kestrel. I also needed to pull the battery for 30mseconds or so before 1.23 would power up, but all is good post upgrade.

In terms on finding firmware updates for the kestrel and changelogs the kestrel web site is realy not good - room for improvement (I do not know why it is not in the service/download section) ... ;-)
I also see that the update via the android app and bluetooth is very slow. It is faster if you connect the kestrel via the usb cable and use a PC, but here the problem is that you need to be loged in on the PC as a Adminstrator, if you are a "normal" user and use the kestrel link software you can download the firmware, but the software stores it in the wrong directory, because it is asking for admin rights and afterwards if you want to flash it it does not find it anymore. (win 10 laptop). If you copy the firmware file to the right user directory it is working fine.
For the recent update it was not neccessary for me to pull the battery, however the restart takes longer than usual, maybe you was a little bit impatient.

The big issue with doing it from a PC isn't the permissions (that's a less than trivial issue . . . ), it's that the cable is full-retard expen$ive for what it is . . . I wish they would have just put a mechanical USB connector on the Kestrel inside the battery door so that it would stay clean, and not require an expen$ive, proprietary cable. The idea of an optical USB interface isn't a bad one, but it certainly can't help speed either . . . Myself, I'd rather just pop off the battery door to update, and use one of the plethora of standard cables already on hand.
I guess the proprietary, optical usb cable is coming from the "older" computer days not having a low power wireless transmission such as bluetooth to transfer rifle/ballistic data to the battery powered kestrel in the field. Open the sealed battery door in the filed just to transfer balistic data would not be a good, reliable, robust thing. The firmware update is a special situation which normaly is not done in the field. So at the end the time for a firmware update is not that mission critical. And another point is that the mechanical plugs of a normal usb cable have a much shorter lifetime of how many "connections" you can make with such a plug than the optical plug which wears much less than a standard metal plug. How many broken usb connectors in smartphones in this world, because users are in a hurry and forget to unplug the phone from the charger before leaving? The proprietary connector on the kestrel device looks to me much more robust than any standard usb plug.
But off course the faster, the simpler, the better it is and so far I have not seen a computer or any other computerized device which is too fast ... ;-) (beside the Arcade games maybe, because I got screwed much to fast )

My Bushnell repaired fine, so I don't think it's an inherent Bluetooth flaw. You net Bluetooth to "Device" and hit, iirc, "New" to scan/discover with your rangefinder powered up, and it isn't found?
I just tried duplicating the issue here and was having issues with the 1.23 and the Terrapin. We are looking into this. Sorry for the trouble. If you have a way to connect to a PC/MAC, I can send you a file to downgrade back to 1.22 for the moment. Please contact [email protected]
To clarify, I was able to pair the Terrapin X to the Kestrel with 1.23 but it was not transferring the range data.
Update: Firmware 1.23 is working with the Terrapin X. It appears that you can get into a situation where the Kestrel thinks it is paired but the Terrapin is showing the flashing Bluetooth symbol. If this is the case, triple button press the Terrapin and select OFF (you also may want to Forget this connection on the Kestrel as well. Then turn it back on and try and pair again ). If the Kestrel shows connected and the Terrapin X shows a solid Bluetooth symbol, you shouldn't have any issues. And this is another reason why I went with a Garmin 701; standard micro USB port behind the battery door. I've been using it this week, and it's really growing on me. Not bashing the Kestrel per se, since it does different things than the 701, I'm just saying I like the logical, common sense design of the 701 (and the USB port under the battery door is one of them).
Some decisions are based on durability however. Garmin can do a micro-USB as they only offer a very limited 2 year warranty. Kestrel has a 5 year warranty and a micro USB may not last that long. It's a trade-off for sure but one we hope improves the life of the unit. We also have military customers who connect with the cable while in the field and this is a way to keep it waterproof.

My thought was Link for data exchange, and copper USB under the battery door for upgrades that run fast enough that you don't fear death due to old age due to the slowness . . . 1:15? That's just rediculous in this day and age! Keeping the optical for those without Link is also an option . . . although, Frankly, using phones with Micro USB for 5+ years typically, and at least one plug in/out daily, I have never worn out a device side connector. Crap cables yes, but not the device . . .

Understood and appreciate the feedback. An hour and 15 mins is much longer than what we typically see however, so I'm not sure why it took that long and apologize.
Yeah . . .it downloaded to my Android in seconds from the network, and then took forever to load to the Kestrel. Even up/down loading guns is at least a minute or two for 5 weapons . . . . Bluetooth works fine exchanging data and settings, and with other deevices, so not sure what is up. I tried repositioning, etc. and that was as good as it was going to be!
That's why I always wait MONTHS after an update from them. Always problems! I would think they would have all the bugs worked out before they release the updates? Also, they must figure out a fix for the time it takes to do an update and you have to replace the batteries all the time!

Can you tell me what device you are using and the operating system on this device?
BLE absolute max is about 0.25 megabytes per second. Realistically is much slower, so you are talking about 0.1 ish megabytes per second around 125 kbit/s to maybe 1 mbit/s.
Blackberry Priv with Android 6.0.1 . . . It's a high end, stupid fast device doing anything else. Note also that your app is incapable of getting the GPS data on this device as well, and alway uploads '0.0', despite anything else on the device working fine. I have to suspect that your app just plain has something goofy going on . . .
Considering a gun entry should be not much more than 100 bytes, that pretty much confirms my point that my data transfers to thie Kestrel are pretty much stuck in reverse, no matter what it is doing . . . .
