So, guys, help me out here. I know I want to get a Kestrel.

Is it worth to sink extra money into one that comes wi the the HORUS ballistic calculator function?

I'm looking at the 4500 NV model with the Horus, but it is a heck of a lot more than the "basic" Kestrel.

Your thoughts?

Hopefully I will be ordering one today if I can exchange my unused kestrel I got last week. Some features I think are kick ass are the environmental factors automatically get entered into the firing solution, and the blue tooth can allow you to connect to other devices up to 30ft way or yards. Those devices being something like a PDA that has another software you like that will input the variables from your kestrel, or hook it up to your computer for using it with other software. I sound like a rep, damn it. On the negative side, when you change batteries you lose all your data, but creating profiles takes less than a few minutes if you know what your doing.

Use the bluetooth to save all your data to your computer before you swap the batteries :).

The Applied Ballistics version is just another ballistics calculator like the Horus Vision one. Its the newer released model. Both solve the same problem - providing a predicted trajectory. The Applied Ballistics comes with Bryan Litz's custom measured BC's for around 200 projectiles.

I have a kestrel, and hardly use it anymore. I would get a cheap wind meter and a watch with baro and temp, and Shooter app on your phone.

Humidity i have found is not really needed

My Kestrel and my Casio pathfinder show the same readings

Well, I had the Horus and went to an AB...And I love my AB.

If you're going to shoot <= 1200yds get a Horus...If you're going to shoot >= 1200yds get the AB.

I have a non-bluetooth AB...I bought the docking station for it...I'm happier than a pig in shit.

The only REAL difference between the two is how the math is done...Mainly in regards to BC's...That's about it.

First dope is always dead nuts on for me...HUGE ammo saver and time saver...

I still do the calculations by hand just so, I'm still doing them but, if I was ever in a pinch, I'd trust the Kestrel AB...

So, do I think it's worth it? Absolutely...
