I can't seem to get my PC to connect to my Kestrel. I've had the cable for a year or more, always worked. PC is new, and Kestrel just got the latest firmware via LiNK for iOS. Any ideas how to troubleshoot why the Kestrel cannot communicate to the PC apps anymore?

    Is the kestrel turned on?

    LOL

I wonder if the cable doesn't work with USB 3.x ports? The 'Devices and Printers' screen shows it recognizes the "Kestrel Infrared to USB Interface" device. The troubleshooter suggests I plug it into a USB 2.0 port, which the new PC doesn't have.

They do work with USB 3.1. That is what I use.

Which program AB profile loader or Kestrel LiNK or both? Did you update the firmware using this computer? One thing to try is just a soft reset of the Kestrel. Take out the battery, hold down the power button for 30 seconds and then put the battery back in. You won't lose any information except compass calibration. Also make sure you have the cable plugged into the computer before you open the application and don't have both open at same time obviously.

I've tried both apps, not an the same time. The Kestrel firmware was last updated using my phone, over bluetooth.

I tried the soft reset, but still get no communication. The AB profile loader (I tried both 60 and 66) say they cannot detect the cable. The LiNK app on Windows v1.04.04 detects the cable but never detects the Kestrel.

Can you try removing the battery door and holding the cable over the lenses directly? Does that make a difference with the Kestrel LiNK program?

We are on version 68 now: http://appliedballisticsllc.com/products/ab-profile-loader/

We tested it with the 4500AB, 5700, & Foretrex 701.

You need to make sure no other programs are running when you try to perform the transfer. You want to plug the cable in. Then start the Kestrel, and switch it to data port mode. Then start the profile loader software. You should have a green light in the top right corner.

It didn't seem to make any difference.

I downloaded version 68 of the profile loader and followed the order you suggested. No change. It's odd that the profile loader thinks nothing is connected, but the LiNK app sees the cable just not the Kestrel.

I'm having a similar issue with the dongle at the moment. Link sees it (the Kestrel) but the Profile Loader seems to think it is looking for a USB cable(?)

The profile loader only works with the Cable. If you have the LiNK version of the Kestrel you should be using the App to manage FW updates and Libraries. This gives you access to AB Connect™ which means you don't need to wait for new versions of the software to have access to that latest library.
