I just picked up a 5700 w/LINK and am getting it all figured out. I've always used Strelok before now. I'm also just coming into PRS/DMM type matches from the 3Gun world.
Do y'all tend to enter specific ranges into your Kestrel for match stages?
I *think* I like being able to create a range card for a specific stage. i.e., Target A is 575, Target B is 383, etc. BUT, I suspect that could be a major pain in the ass in the middle of a competition, especially if there is a blind stage (no chance to preview or range find before going on the clock). Fiddling with the device between or during stages sounds like trouble.
Or do you work up a detailed drop sheet ahead of time for close-enough distances, i.e. 100, 150, 200,...., 1,000 with your dope? This is what I've done for 3-Gun, just use a generic card with a wrist coach, taped to the stock, etc. Then, leave the fiddling with the Kestrel for practice sessions, or non-match conditions?
For match stages, it seems that if the target is 18x36 or 12x12, then is won't make too much difference if my range card for a specific stage says 537yds vs. my generic drop sheet saying 550 yds, eh?
