I have the funding to build my 10/22, and I am torn on what barrel I should purchase.

KID is $175 non-fluted, $215 for fluted from KID. VQ I can get a new 18.5" non-fluted for $218. www.kingguns.com has the VQ for sale, and hear that they have so-so customer service, where as KID has great customer service.

Am I doing to chosing between two nearly identical models and it is now my choice based on after-sale service?

I am on a "budget" of around $350 for barrel, scope mount, stock (boyds tacticool), extractor, and buffer (and freight...). So the barrel is not a make or break point, I just want upper level of quality.

This is my first 10/22 build, and like AR's, the companies that produce for these little guns is staggering, so if you know of another barrel choice that fits the bill, let me know what it is and why.

Thanks again!

Both are on Walther blanks I believe.
I've shot against Kidds and they are nice.
I have many bbls with Lilja being my best.

Re: KID or VQ barrel for 10/22

Well, I am pulling the trigger (so to speak) on a KID. Still debating between 18" and 20"...guess I will make up my mind when I get there.

I am thinking 18" will be slightly more useful and still as accurate as a 20". I think that the difference there is just looks...

Re: KID or VQ barrel for 10/22

I went KID stainless 18" polished finish with KID extractor, buffer, and scope rail.

I will post a build after everything shows up. Then, range time with some ammo!

If anyone has ammo they would like to see tested, post up here or shoot me a PM. I am going to take a trip to Boise and visit Cabelas (cuz I'm a bat rastard like that!).

I will be getting some wolf match, pistol and rifle variety of eley, and will be trying some american eagle, peters, and a few other brands that I can find here in town.

Thanks everyone!

Re: KID or VQ barrel for 10/22

Go with a Clerke. They are exceptional barrels at a really cheap price; you can buy the Clerke and have more money for the rest of the rifle. Chambers are tighter on the Clerkes also. I am not sure which on is tighter the Kidd chamber or the Clerke chamber (you will have to look around). Clerke also uses 4150 steel for this chromoly barrels where everyone else uses 4140. 4150 steel is supposed to be a better steel for barrels.

Hope this helps

Believe it or not, my Kidd barreled 10/22 just loves CCI MiniMags.

You will likely have good luck with the Wolf, my Kidd 20" shoots it at less than .5 moa.

+1 Tony is a great guy to deal with.

Re: KID or VQ barrel for 10/22

Another for KIDD - 129 yard head shot I made on a rabbit last week with my 16" KIDD rifle blew my mind. Ranged, dialed, bang, flop.

Re: KID or VQ barrel for 10/22

Kidd barrels are amazing. The sleeved one I have is quite accurate. At very least .5" at 50yds. I have yet to really wring it out and see how good it is.

Re: KID or VQ barrel for 10/22

KIDD Barrel - $175
KIDD Extractor - $11
KIDD Buffer - $6

With shipping you're sitting about $200 with shipping and I would add the KIDD Spring Kit for $13 and use the white spring for match ammo or suppression.

So you're now under $150 of budget left and still need a scope base/rings, stock, extended mag release and at least a hammer kit (oh and don't forget to do the mod to hold your bolt back when mag is empty).

EGW 20 MOA Picatinny Rail - $38
VQ Extended Mag Release - $20
VQ Hammer Kit - $45

You may need to bump your budget a little!!

Re: KID or VQ barrel for 10/22

Pretty much exactly what I did. Extractor, buffer, barrel, and scope base. Will be adding as I can. This is about 75% done (are they ever really done? Nope, just like Jeeps, they are never done). Already have scope and rings, so that is covered.

Mag release I will mod myself, trigger is already stoned and really good, as is the rest of the fire control group.

Springs, well, did not think about that. Should have, but oh well, it is shipped now. WIll post a gratuitious pieces shot, one of it "mostly" together, one by the pool, and one with a foot in the photo.

Re: KID or VQ barrel for 10/22

Sounds like you're almost there! Have you been able to source a Tacticool yet? May be tough to find. Yours seems similar to my set up below with "custome Rico-flauge" paint...

Re: KID or VQ barrel for 10/22

RicosRevenge, that is pretty much exactly what I want to do. I placed an order on Boyds website, they said they were in stock, but do not have a confirmation on it yet...perhaps a call is in order.

I am looking to do the same thing with the camo. Might go high-tech and do a cool Goodyear Wrangler MTR w/ Kevlar pattern...you know, something totally different from the normal GAP/ACU/Whatever pattern that most everyone does.

And if anyone says I need to do a Hello Kitty pattern, I can find out where you live...and do something equally annoying to your mailbox!

Color will be roughly the same as Ricos, just wanted something different. For my "tacticool" bolt extension, I am thinking I may use a valve stem cover from one of my spare tires...who knows. Little of both worlds!

Re: KID or VQ barrel for 10/22

Thats the magic of Krylon... up to your imagination. If it doesn't come out to your liking, then just start over.

I will say I've never seen anything hello Kitty except pink, so it might be cool in jungle colors...

I live somewhere near Dallas... HA!!

Re: KID or VQ barrel for 10/22

If anyone is thinking Volquartsen 1:9 for the Aguila SSS 60gr subsonics, I would think again. The 10/22 cycles the round too fast and is still burning powder as it ejects from the receiver. The Aguila SSS is better suited to a bolt action rifle.

And its back, back, to the warning track... deeeeep into left field!!

i dont think there is on a 10/22. the barrel is the biggest variable in a 10/22. with a bentz chamber and recrown the stock barrel will tighten up. the bull barrels just dont get hot.
