Movie Theater Killer Elite

Re: Killer Elite

It does look interesting. I like action. But, I heard it described as "very brutal."

Is it a bit "over the top" in that regard. I personally don't care for torture scenes or when they take it to the next level...

Re: Killer Elite

Hopefully the scene on commercial where Jason Statham flips his chair on Clive Owen is short lived. I'm not wild about stuff like that. Kind of like the expendables, started watching that movie...it was a waste of time. What i'm really getting at is Statham like a over the top rambo type or is this a decent realistic movie worth watching?

Re: Killer Elite

Saw it last night at the theater. Overall, I liked the movie. However, I would recommend DVD for viewing due to high ticket prices. Overall, all of the action is "believable" and not over the top. Deniro needed a lot more time in the film. His part was very small (as far as seeing him act). The plot stuck together, but the movie seemed to be all over the place.

Enjoy.

Re: Killer Elite

Saw the movie with my wife and step-son. We enjoyed it! Interesting story, good action, and some great interplay between Statham, DeNiro, and Owen. Based on the controversial novel "The Feather Men" (see quote from wiki below).

The Feather Men is a 1991 novel by the British adventurer Sir Ranulph Fiennes.

The book tells the story of four British Army soldiers, including two members of the Special Air Service, who are assassinated by a hit squad known as "The Clinic". The murders are carried out over a 17-year period, on the orders of a Dubai sheikh whose son was killed by British forces in Oman during a battle with Communist guerrillas.

Fiennes claimed that he himself was targeted by the group, but was saved by a group of vigilantes calling themselves the "Feather Men."

Re: Killer Elite

Wife and I saw this on Fri. We both liked it. If you watch it for entertainment value it's a very good movie. It's not something I would go out of my way to see again, but if it was on one of the movie channels I would watch it again.

Re: Killer Elite

Watched this movie last night. Pretty good overall. Action and fight scenes were believable, except for the chair flip... For movie purposes, badass! Made me want to read the book.

1 question though... Do all mercenaries use only pistols? Just a thought...

Re: Killer Elite

I liked it, but the whole concept of 'based on a true story' was a real stretch.

The true elements were that the SAS engagement at Mirbat did occur. It is well-documented. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Mirbat

The other 'true' element is that 'Ruperts' (officers) present at Mirbat, Capt. Mike Kealy, later died while repeating the SAS selection march in the Beacons. I think he was a Major or Col. at the time. He died of exposure, which is not uncommon during the 40-miler.

This got spun by Ranulph Fiennes (sp), another legendary SAS figure, in a book he wrote in the 1980's called "The Feather Men." This book postulated that Kealy died in a conspiracy, around which this movie is based.

Kealy's wife was particularly upset over the book.

That said, it was a great movie. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

For a great short-story based around the battle of Mirbat, read Frederick Forsyth's "The Veteran." It doesn't go into a lot of detail of the battle, but is a great fiction short story with an outstanding ending!!! The non-fiction book "SAS: Operation Oman", if you can find a copy, does go into a lot of detail on Mirbat.

Cheers,

Sirhr
