Looking at a 8400 advanced tactical. How is the quality of these? Don't see too may around. Cdi makes bottom metal I think for them. Lately I have seen several issues with kimber handguns that is quite disheartening but wondering if their rifles are suffering the same fate?

Thanks.

Re: LookLookiKimber rifles quality?

A lot of people say that they are hit or miss. I have two Kimber 1911s that have been great out of the box. I have no complaints.Despite what people say on here, based on sales figures there are apparently a ton of other people who also like them.

As for as rifles go, again alot of people say that they are hit or miss. If I was looking for a tacical rifle in that price range I believe that I would go with an FN A series. I never haer any complaint about them and alot of custom stops will do work on those actions. Seem to offer a little more for the money. Look in the Commercial sales forum. One of the venders had a great sale going last time I looked.

Re: LookLookiKimber rifles quality?

I have a 8400 Montana, fit and finish are great. 300WSM I haven't really done a thorough job of wringing out the gun for accuracy. at < 7 lbs its not a pleasant bench gun. But it delivers 3 shot groups in the half to 3/4 inch range at 100 with 180 gr Accubonds if I control the fear....LOL

Cheers

Re: LookLookiKimber rifles quality?

A guy who shoots with me has a Kimber .308 of some flavor (sorry, I don't exactly which model it is). His will shoot two bullets in the same hole and then pitch the 3rd, 4th and 5th shots a pretty fair distance out from the first two. The rifle consistently does the same thing for whoever shoots it.

He is in the process of sending it back to Kimber because he cannot identify the issue. He's checked optics, mounts, action bolts, bedding, etc. He just bought a Nighthawk Custom .308 and says he is getting rid of his Kimber when it gets back from being repaired (if they can find anything wrong).

I know that this isn't indicative of every Kimber rifle, as I have seen others that shot pretty well. I just know that my friend has had quite a time with his and lost confidence in it.

Re: LookLookiKimber rifles quality?

I have not owned a Kimber. It sounds like they tend to be hit and miss as stated. Lots of lovers and haters. I still want to own one at one point. Jethro, the rifles have a lightweight barrel so the outliers could be a result of the barrel being hot.

Re: LookLookiKimber rifles quality?

I have an 84L in 25-06, that thing will beat the snot out of me worse then my 300rum. The accuracy is par but not what I was hopeing for for the price. Also finding mounts and bases are a real pain in the ass. I would avoid these rifles and get a FN, or custom remington

Re: LookLookiKimber rifles quality?

They may be a bit "hit or miss" in the accuracy dept, but I've owned a number of Kimbers and the quality of the machining has always been exceptional. Barreled action to stock fit has always been Excellent also.

Re: Kimber rifles quality?

I had a 22-250 and was a nice gun but lacked in accuracy i thought. Granted i did not spend a ton of time lookin for the right load. I wuld think u culd get a much better gun out of box and to build on for money.

Re: Kimber rifles quality?

I've got an Advanced Tactical in 308 and like it. I'm just getting into shooting rifles from a USPSA handgun background so maybe I don't know the difference, but I've sent a 1.5" group at 300 yards. Would I have paid full retail for one brand new? Probably not given other options, but I found one used, he price was right for me it came totally set up and I have no complaints.
