Thinking about giving my 14.5 a make over. Thinking of removing the DD Omega 9" rails, the FSB/gas block, and the PWS SM 556. Then will replace all this with 13" KMR rails, a Griffin Armament M4 SD II, and an adjustable gas block. Turning the gun into a night weapon and figured by the time i add a suppressor, DBAL-I2, another light (replacing the m300a), and foregrip it was going to start getting heavy. Plus just wanting something different.

Dumb question...... Why don't you sell the upper you have and start over?? Why waste the PWS 556? I wouldn't do a 14 1/2" barrel. The 1 1/2" isn't worth it. Have you looked at the deals BCM has on uppers? It is a no brainer!

I agree. In the end you're going to be farther ahead by selling what you have. BCM was is currently giving away a complete BCG and one of their comps with the 16" uppers. Over a $250 option for the price of only the upper.

Last I tried to sell the 14.5 I couldn't find anyone to buy it. Partly why I'm not selling it though then I was selling the entire rifle. I suppose I could do that.

The reason for the switch is honestly I just don't want to pay 1500$ for a KAC NT4.

Talking to my class 3 dealer about an SBR now. Which is what I honestly always wanted. Will just depend on how complicated it makes things. He was telling me 4 week wait to build one. That's not bad at all. Would really prefer a 12.5 or 13" upper honestly. I'm thinking in terms of that 7" that the suppressor will add I guess. I also just have always liked/wanted an SBR.

I personally don't want anything to do with an SBR or can. When they come to get them your's will be the first door they knock on! They may never do it but I would rather be a small blip on their radar than a BIG one!

The can is a done deal and a must. If an SBR is no more hassle than a can it's about to become a reality.
As far as them coming and taking things...well this about sums it up. Personal opinion but this is neither the thread nor the time for that

That combo would work perfect. Id definitely think itd add value and youd sell it, but without knowing what youre trying to get it may be a moot point. Either way, thats a damn good call going the SBR route. Ive done the 16", 14.5", 12.5", 11.5", 10.5" and 10.25". There is no way in hell i would ever go over 11.5" after running all of those.

I wont even comment on the "youll be the first one they come and get" bullshit. Its pussies like that with no balls to stand up for what they believe in that really chap my ass.

Truthfully from the moment i wanted a mid length/carbine length AR i wanted a 12.5. I didn't feel like doing the whole ATF/NFA route back then and also didn't have a class 3 dealer near me. Now there is one an hour away. He was telling me it's taking 6-8 months to buy an SBR and around 4 weeks if you want to build one. I put my upper up for sale. Am asking 600$ at the moment, dunno if that's too much i figured it was somewhat reasonable with the BCG. I didn't list whether i was keeping the BCG but speccing a 12.5 it would be about 800$ to build with a BCG roughly 700$ without it. Hell if i could buy it, it would be 670$ but i'd have to wait. Might just wait. Though then again BCM is doing the limited time BCG free which is why it's 670$.

Here is 11.5" with 10" KMR. I had 1/3" of barrel showing. I'd highly recommend the 11.5" over the 12.5".

Its dependent on a few things for me. I run my shorty 5.56 in a way that is conducive to the specific purpose i have for that rig - that purpose being the fastest, most manuverable, compact set up possible - while also keeping accuracy, reliability and the factors that contribute to shootability (recoil impulse, gas/pressure management, etc) as top priorities. After shooting so many different lengths in the SBR 5.56 area, I personally prefer a 10.25"/10.3". The 11.25" is my next favorite. I would also admit that the 10.5" requires a bit more work to tune than the 11.5", but from my perspective, that one inch is worth going through the tuning process.

The 12.5" was just too long for me in the context of what i was trying to accomplish. I would much rather run a 13.5" mid-length over a 12.5" carbine length rig just for the benefits of the longer gas system. If it's carbine length im loving the MK18ish lengths. The other issue is shooting suppressed. I dont like what the excessive dwell time of the 12.5" does to timing in a suppressed rig (assuming youre shooting for .18-.20ms of net time). Non-suppressed however, its great. At the end of the day, i could only say to think it through based on the most granular level of detail that you can come up with as it relates to your application. That will prove to be the best one, but the "best" is clearly different for everyone. For me, that was the ole' 10 incher.

See I really am looking for a 13.5 but didn't see it on BCMs site. I would like to stay with a mid-length gas system. If I have to stay with carbine length I'll just go 11.5" i guess. I plan on shooting this suppressed mostly so that is a factor.

How about intemediate length gas then? Im about to finish a project with a cut-rifled 16" Kreiger with intermediate gas, Wylde chamber, LW contour that i had John at WOA spin up. Its the softest shooting, most accurate 5.56 ive ever seen. I think theres another shop churning out button-rifled Shilen pipes to the same specs. Cant recall who off the top of my head.

The other thing I noticed when looking at SBRs is people were saying 12.5/13.5 is too close to 14.5/16 which I guess is personal preference.

Its 18" if youre looking for something that you can run any ammo through UNSUPPRESSED and ensure reliability from a manufacturer's perspective. An 18" intermediate will be overgassed when suppressed. A 16" intermediate is perfect for a suppressed set up, albeit likely still overgassed depending on the suppressor being used. KAC uses it on 16"ers. Just throw one of SLR's adjustable gas blocks on there and youll be gtg.

FWIW, Voodoo Innovations sells a 16.5" rifle length gas barrel. Any of them will work, you just have to tie in the factors that are specific to how you'll run your rig before making the call.

I'm likely to just settle with 11.5 or 12.5 leaning towards 11.5
