I'm wondering if any of you may have the Knifes of Alaska knifes. I have the three knife set (skinner w gut hook, the big cleaver and the little knife) while splitting the pelvis bone on a deer the edge of the cleaver had chipped. I contacted KoA and they told me to send it back and they will evaluate it to see if its covered under warranty.

Has anyone else had any problems with knifes from them?

Re: Knifes of Alaska

I have the miniclever with caping knife set. I have used them for two years and am pleased. The edge held up well. Just make sure you oil it well after, high carbon. A good friend has the large clever and has used it for over 6 years...loves it.

Good knives all around.

Re: Knifes of Alaska

I've got the skinner and even though I've tried hard to like it I don't like it at all. The handle is to small, the blade is excessively thick, the steel is hard enough to be difficult to sharpen quickly and then seems to lose it's edge faster than one would expect with such hard steel. The tip is also cumbersome enough to be annoying while breaking joints, and working in tight spots. It generally sits in my pack and is just a really expensive gut hook. It has made me a bit leery of purchasing one of their others that looks to be a better design especially without getting to handle one first. Just my .02
