I'm looking for a modestly priced side parallax adjusting scope to complete a AR varminter. I don't expect shots past 300 yards and and want a max magnification of 16-20x. FFP is not important for this application. I have found the Konus and Vortex to have interesting specs. I have not had the opportunity to handle either of these scopes, so I'm looking for opinions. Any ideas?

Re: Konus M30 or Vortex Viper

I've yet to look through a Vortex. I've been impressed with the Konus M30's I own. Got one bad one out of say 8, and their C.S. was incredible -- they paid to ship the bad one back, and rushed a new one to me. Blue illumination is nice. Glass is good for the price. I keep them mainly as back-ups to the spendy stuff.

Forum newb here.

Just picked up an 4.5-16x44 M30 from Poor Fish on Ebay for about $250. I haven't had time to mount it and shoot but it "looks" nice. Low power has a bit of fisheye effect and eye relief is pretty unforgiving at the higher end. The glass otherwise is quite clear. On the surface the mechanicals are crisp and smooth. It seems to be much better than their other rifle scope offerings. Also their 80mm spotters are gaining in popularity with some HP shooters. Looked through that one as well and was impressed for $200. It's not a 80mm Kowa w/27xLER EP but there wasn't a $600 difference in clarity either.

Edit: On the M30 at ranges beyond approximately 25 yards the fisheye effect is gone. It just seems to be a problem at short range and low power.
