KRG Bravo Barrel Contour Balance Question

Hello Gents,

I was hoping you would be so kind as to lend your input on a barrel contour that would balance my planned setup below.

This would be for a 223 just for a fun plinking around gun and getting some more experience under my belt. I do not compete. I was thinking about 22" for length and shooting off of a bipod most of the time.

Lone Peak action
KRG Bravo stock
Bushnell LRTS 3-12
Trigger Tech trigger
Shot off of a Harris Bipod swivel 9-13"

A medium Palma would be excellent for a 223.

In competition circles a medium Palma is considered a pencil profile.
WAY to light for them.

If you were going longer I’d recommend a light Palma.
I’m more basing my recommendation on balance considerations and I’m familiar with the Palma contours.
The rem varmint contour is a nice option as well.
I’ve run a few of the medium varmint contours and a short med varmint is a great option as well.

I have a 26” MTU in .308 on a Bravo Chassis and don’t find it too front heavy. What’s your intended use for the rifle? If you intend to carry it any distance weight may be a factor. If you want some additional barricade stability, heavy weight might be attractive.

Feesh - intended use is just a prone gun / shooting off off tables / hay bales. Not planning on hiking miles with it but would like it to balance my setup that's all.

I currently have a remage in my bravo and its an 18" nss varmint profile and its slightly butt heavy. Ill probably go 20" nss bull this next time to get it a bit more forward heavy without being really long, that should add a pound up front I think and even out well.
Being a remage I dont have weight of the fatter barrel shoulder right at the action but its not very much difference in balance there in the middle of the rifle. .

I'm running a Remington 700 223 in a bravo with a hawk hill 7 twist heavy Palma finished at 26". I've been happy with it so far , but all my shooting has been prone off a bipod. I've run some dry fire barricade drills and it seems to balance good on the barricade but I haven't really paid much attention to balance either. I'll post a pic later if I get time.

I’m running the same in my Bravo. However, it’s purely a competition gun weighing in at just over 20 lbs.

I have have had to add 44 Mag lead projectiles into all the butt stock empty spaces for it to balance.

I've got a 22" barreled action pulled from a 6.5CM Bergara B14 HMR, placed in a Bravo with the added KRG fore-end weight, the Arcar Rail, and 2 MDT weights in the MLOK slots up front. I've also added some weight inside the butt stock and it balances right where I want (directly in front of the magwell). I wanna say the B14 barrel is a #5 contour (double check me on that) so not very heavy. Hope this helps a little.

When I re-barrel this thing I'm def going at least M24 and adding more weight to the rear.

Vortex pst g2 5-25-x50 weighing in at 17.5 pounds.
Balance point seems to be 1 to 2 inches forward of recoil lug.

We do recommend a max of a Rem Varmint contour (or T3 varmint/CTR, they are similar). Comp guns are a different story if you are going for weight of course, but then you need weight in the rear for balance.

Oh, good point. I run the arca spigot with the aluminum forend with the arca built in.

IMHO, either one would work just fine!

300 Winmag. 28" Benchmark, MTU, 9.5 twist. This is this gun's 4th barrel, I'll be taking it to a mile by the end of the week.

Thought I would offer my perspective, given your desire for a ‘balanced setup’.

Without any focus towards any particular discipline, choose whatever barrel contour and length combination that suits your fancy. Once your setup is assembled you can balance your Bravo rig quite easily by adding weight either forward or toward the rear as needed.

There are commercially available weights available to achieve your desired balance point or you can get creative and make your own.

I am running a 26”medium palma(JHR) and considered the balance near perfect for me. However with the addition of accessories up front I fashioned my own length of pull spacer out of walnut and slugged it with weight to maintain the balance point.

Don’t worry, be happy with your KRG Bravo!

I added the minimalist to keep a Harris on all the time, and the ARCA rail. The spigot helped with where I wanted the balance and helps keep the bipod up higher when it's folded by a little.

Fun fact: If you get too front-heavy, you can take the rear butt pad off and put wheel weights (the ones they stick inside your car wheels to balance your tires) in there. Can buy a box of those wheel weights for $18 on amazon. Snyder Precision also makes heavy LOP spacers much cheaper than what KRG sells theirs for, and Snyder's are actually available...

I had a Remingotn 700 in .308 with a 24' varmint contour barrel in a KRG Bravo. Balanced really well. My vote is for the varmint contour.

I have a .223Rem with a 26" Criterion Remage Varmint contour barrel. Without the TBAC 30P-1 suppressor is barely front end heavy, however with the suppressor on it tips the balance a bit. I've countered that by adding the Snyder Precision weighted spacers (not installed in picture).

Agreed, had a 260 with a 22" barrel that was perfect suppressed.

28” from the lug m24 contour 6mm barrel. I felt it was front heavy so I filled the butt stock with lead shot. It works as nice as putting grains of sand in the hilt of a high end chefs knife. You can add ounces at a time instead of pounds, doesn’t add any length and almost as good as mercury because it’s not one solid piece so it takes more of the recoil out of it

Lol that was actually after cleaning it up a bit after the bighorn steel classic this year..(it was a mud fest) great time though! It took me awhile to start treating guns as tools and not china plates lol

The channel is straight. It will handle a straight tube if you want.

There site says not reccomend reason i asked. I got a 1.250 for 5 inches then tapers to .90.
