Ha! Like most threads I said my piece and walked. I don’t have any notifications on, so it becomes a distant memory. Once in a while I hang around a bit. Watching white trash assault and kill each other was bad enough. I had little to add anyway.

I do think juxtaposing Kyle’s post acquittal behavior against someone like Zimmerman will be interesting. I often wondered if Zimmerman was just an asshole from the get-go or if the arrest, trial, demonization death threats and infamy made him one. I really think Kyle will show us that Zimmerman was an just an asshole. That however is not illegal. I still think Z had a valid self-defense case.

By all accounts Kyle seems to have always been a person of good developing charactor. He is young so unlike Z and this has come at a pivotal age in his young life. It really will be interesting to see where his story goes from here. I just hope he can stay safe.

Wait until they become teenagers and see if that still holds. Don't be surprised if they start to question your view of the world and try to figure things out for themselves. Considering his family background, I strongly suspect that Kyle Rittenhouse did not have all the developmental advantages that you have been able to provide to your children. Despite that, he seems to possess a pretty good moral center. Hopefully, he will continue to build on that foundation as he matures.

For a couple of years now, I've been telling my kids that I have a right to tell them what I think and why I think what I do, but I do not have the right to tell them what to think. I've explained as best I can that the scary responsibility of freedom is making up your own mind on the big issues of life. Acting on your beliefs and being willing to correct your ideas when you get new information.

I've told them that the one thing I'm pretty sure of is that when someone in a position of authority starts telling them what they must believe that that is just a crass manipulation. No one can tell you what to believe.

Yeah, I expect the teenage years will have challenges. Am I ready for them? Not even close. But if I've had good answers so far it's because they have ask good questions.

Kyle, you'll get no argument from me that he seems nice enough. I'll bet he has better judgment going forward.
