FWIW to those who don't have the time to search this out in the public domain here's a newly complete cypher key to L3's 'Smart' part number system. FYI it is limited to 1580 specifications without configuration/performance modifiers.

1xxxx _ _ - _ _ - _ _ _ + _ - _ _ _ _

6 Digit Tube Format (11769, 10160, 10130 etc... ___ Phosphor Type (G - P43/W - P45) ___Image Intensifier Type (F - Filmed/U - Unfilmed)

1xxxx _ _ - _ _ - _ _ _ + _ - _ _ _ _

___
Power Supply Type (A - Autogated/D - Non Autogated) ___EMI Shielding [S - Shielded, N - Non Shielded, E - Exempt i.e. not reported on data sheet, final assembly may or may not be shielded)]

1xxxx _ _ - _ _ - _ _ _ +/- _ - _ _ _ _

- ___ ___ ___Configuration (C00 - no EGAC Tail i.e. 10160 format), - ___ ___ ___ ___ Configuration (C001 - EGAC Tail)

1xxxx _ _ - _ _ - _ _ _ + _ - _ _ _ _

- ___ ___
Model Code* [model code is first two digits of performance series e.g. -18(1800 series), -20(2000 series), -22(2200 series) etc...(the model code/performance series denotes the minimum/maximum performance specification such as SNR e.g. SNR for 2200 series is 30 vs 28 for 2000 series. The model code also denotes maximum FOM for FOM limited/restricted tubes i.e. A 'Limited' 1800 series tube would have a max FOM of 1800 where as a 'Unlimited' 1800 series tube would have no minimum nor maximum FOM.]
___ Restriction Indicator [U - Unlimited (no restriction on performance series specifications)/L - Limited (restrictions on performance specifications e.g. Min/Max FOM, Reduced PR, No Max Halo)]
___ Cypher Unknown? (M - ?/A - ?)

Example P/N for a 2000 Performance Series Image Intensifier:

11769UW - SA - C001 - 20UM

11769 - PVS-14 Tube Format [37mm inverter tube with EGAC tail (18mm input window and 18mm FO inverter)]
U - Unfilmed
W - P45(W)
S - EMI Shielded
A - Autogated Power Supply
C001 - Configuration (EGAC Tail)
20 - 2000 performance series model code (meets min/max specifications for 2000 series e.g. SNR - 28min, Res - 64 min, PR - 2000 min etc... A 2200 series would have a minimum SNR of 30 versus the 28 min of a 2000 series or 21.9 min of a 1600 series tube)
U - Unlimited (no performance restrictions on PR, no min/max FOM and max Halo of 1.0mm)
M - Cypher Unknown ?

Yep, pretty much. I'll just add that the M on the end refers to the image quality/spot spec requirements (M - Military, A - Aviation, and C - Commercial) Also, regarding shielded/not shielded, the E stands for "either" meaning they can fill the order with either shielded or non-shielded tubes - a minor distinction that ends up being essentially what you have described.

Not to many years ago there were a couple batches of "commercial", unfilmed, non-gated tubes.

Remember thinking they were a bargain.

I ping Rich over at UNV or try L3 direct.

11769UG-ND-C001-18UM would decipher to unfilmed, P43(G), non-gated but maybe 🤡 world has affected part numbers and ident plates.
