I hope this is the correct place for this topic, I’ve been searching and haven’t found a real good answer for my question.

I’m getting ready to mount up a Vortex PST 2 in a Warne XSKEL Mount. It will be mounted on a 20” AR and I am trying to get the best accuracy I can out of the set up.

Do I need to/should I lap the one piece mount, or is it good to go as is?

Thanks

I haven’t bought a lapping kit yet. I was looking at getting the Kokopelli kit, which would allow me to check the rings prior to any potential lapping. I just didn’t want to spend the $$$ if it shouldn’t be done.

IMO alignment tools are crap. The only way to know if the need to be lapped is to start lapping and then check. Best case you are done really quick and you have what you need to check the next set. With that said, I don't check $300+ dollar rings to see if they need it. Would I check that mount? Yep.

Don't lap the mount, as good as manufacturers are getting today, it's pretty much becoming obsolete. If you went down that road, chances are you'd spend the money, lap the rings, make a mess, and come to the realization that you never had to do it in the first place. The one piece mount will not be the limiting factor in trying to get every bit of accuracy out of your set up.

Well it seems like I should just skip the lapping in this situation. I’ve been trying to do everything I can to squeeze every bit of accuracy out of this build, just thought I’d ask about doing this. Thank y’all for the responses!
