Lapping scope rings question

Good morning gentlemen! This is my first post. I’ve been reading this forum for the past month and want to thank you all for sharing a wealth of excellent information on long range rifles/shooting! I’ve been shooting and hunting all of my life and am just now getting into long range shooting after buying a Ruger American Predator in 6.5 Creedmoor. I will cut to the chase lol. Lapping your scope rings... A must or can probably be okay without? Thanks in advance for your input!

Buy quality rings and don’t worry about it.

Never lapped rings. Not even the cheap ones.

No need to lap high quality rings. Cheap ones yes, but why waste your money. You will definitely regret it when you have to buy a better set anyways.

As mentioned above, some of the higher quality rings can be had for under $100, BTW if you hose up the lapping you can end up scoring a mating surface into your scope body. I say dont do it, unless you are having a competent smith doing a project rifle for you.

If you get a nightforce you will void the warranty if you lap them

I use the bars to insure proper alignment before putting the scope on the rings. I torque the rings down with a bar to make sure they are aligned. Even with high quality rings I'd rather use a piece of steel to fit for the first time.

Quite often ring misalignment is caused by an action that's out of square. I would recommend, for your purpose the Burris signature zee rings. They have a polymer insert that makes it less of an issue to have small amounts of misalignment and as a side benefit, it won't leave ring marks on your scope. Don't get me wrong, on most of my rifles I have ARC, Spuhr or Seekins rings, but for your purpose the Burris SZ rings will work fine.
