Range Report Lapua 170 gr lockbase factory ammo

Should work. I have 1-11" (24" tikka) but i reload 170gr Lockbase and it works perfect (2780fps is my load with N540 powder) so factory ammo should also be good as i believe this was standard military ammo for Uk snipers with AI guns.

I had a bunch of the factory crimped stuff a few years back it is was fantastic...but be warned, it is a smoking hot round for factory ammo. Made me fall in love with that bullet and its great bc.

Have shot the 170s in 10,11.25 and 12 tw without issue.

I used to run them for F/TR. My load was this.

170gr Lockbase
44.4gr Varget
Lapua Brass
CCI BR2
2.800 COAL
2773fps with .372fps/deg F

This load shot a .151" group off bipod at 100yds and shot groups around the 1-1.5" mark at 400m. Has scored well in F/TR but I think she tumbled at 1000yds as it just went all over the show. Scored well out to 900yds but.

I've gone back to 155gr class bullets in my 308 and run Berger Fullbores now. I still have around 300 Lockbases left.

Just noticed this thread. Been runningthe factory 170gr Lockbase for a few years now in my AI. Works great and have taken it out past 1000 no problem, but I am at 4000ft plus, depending on where I am shooting.

It's fine ammo, and expensive, but the primers are crimped if you want to re-use the Lapua brass.

The 'good' ammo is the stuff that actually achieves the 2800+ velocities. I had a case that didn't get the desired velocity: Fell about 100fps short.
