Lapua small primer brass

You might get away with it but you also might run into errors. Only way for your specific situation to know is to try. But the safe route is to 1) use large rifle primers or 2) bush your bolt.

Its not that the pin punctures the primer, its that the large firing pin hole makes too large of a gap for the primer material to span and contain the pressure. Shortening up that gap via bolt bushing or using thicker primer material will help. You cant change how thick the primers are made though so you are forced to bush.

Go to 50 seconds for a demonstration

Keep pressures down and you wont have the issue either but then it sort of defeats the purpose of getting a high performance chambering.

I'm shooting a bone stock Remington 700 VS in 308 Win. 1 in 10 twist 24 inch barrel, only modification to rifle is that it's in a Manners stock. Been using Lapua Palma (small rifle) brass for the last few years and have had zero primer problems. Groups posted below along with chrono data; Federal 205 M primers work just as well, but the SD may not be quite as low. These are the best groups I've ever shot from this rifle, I also run this load in my 308 gas gun; 1 in 11 twist Krieger barrel with no problems. I do use Starline 308 Match brass and Federal AR205M primers in the gas gun though. I don't really try to push high velocities and according to Ballistic AE this load will get to a 1000 supersonic, but not much farther, that's good enough for me.
