I was given a Larue QD Mount and was wondering if it would look good and be functional on top of a bolt action 700? Please advise. It will be holding a sig tango 6 24x scope on a custom build long range gun.

It’s this exact one.

Most people dont run them on a bolt but you can always give it a shot and see if it fits alright for you. Generally though 1.375 is really tall on a bolt gun that doesnt have a full wrap hand guard. But if you have an adjustable cheek piece you can use that to mitigate the height and the height over bore can be accounted for in the calculators or by just collecting your dope. It wont hinder you anymore than having a shoe thats a size or two too large will hinder your ability to walk. It just might not be the most comfortable.

I have a Larue mount for my a Leupold 3.5-10 on one of my ARs and your mount will work but as spife7980 said, it might be pretty tall. I also have Larue mounts for my carbine Aimpoint red dots and although the QD mounts are good enough at returning to zero when removed and reinstalled for a red dot, they don't return to zero good enough for a precision rifle optic.

Ok. Cool. That’s what I was looking for. It’s was free, so I may put it on an AR. Thanks for your advice.

I have not had a problem with Larue QD mounts gouging my rails. I have had them mark the rails from repeated removal and reinstallation, but black anodizing on an AR upper isn't that hard to rub off from wear. These aren't museum pieces that we have so marks on the rail don't bother me.

"they don't return to zero good enough for a precision rifle optic." I'm seriously curious, do any of the QD mounts return to zero good enough for a PRO? Thanx. Not being a 'wise-guy', just would like to know and if so which ones? TIA, lg

In my experience with Larue mounts on ARs, the QD mounts will return to within 1/2 to 3/4 minute. In my book, that's not good enough for a precision rifle. So my AR that has the Larue mount holding a Leupold 3.5-10 lives with that scope mounted and I don't remove without confirming zero.

It’s not going on an AR, I was thinking about slapping on my custom 700. It’s a medium not high mount. just curious as it was a freebie from a gunsmith buddy. It will never be taken off. I was just trying to save a little money after dropping $1900 on a tango 6 lol. I will probably go with some seekins if it looks goofy or is not functional.

The only 2 QD mounts that absolutely positively return to zeros are the Sphur and the Bobro. I run a Sphur QD on my DTA when I switch between thermal and day scope. Absolutely no shift. I've had ADM and Larue mounts before, and can't say the same. The ADM sits on a sbr 300blk so I don't mind the little bit of a shift on a 1-4 scope. The larue could barely maintain zero without even removing and reinstalling it on the rail on my AI AE mk3 and was a never ending source of frustration ...
