I'm trying to trade for one, and saw one with a normal a2 bird cage. I thought they all came with larue brakes/fh? How much would you say is a fair price for a barely used one? What's the difference between a "field grade" and "match" barrel?

In case this deal doesn't work out, anyone have a good place to buy a predatobr or something like it? Or someone looking to get rid of theirs? I'd trade optics (NF, S&B). Looking for 14-16 inch rifle with an adjustable gas block. Switch barrel is a cool feature but not 100% neccessary. It'd be cool if it came with a surefire flash suppressor that would accept the standard issue scar h suppressor. I also need the upper to fit into the lower of an m110. Thanks.

The birdcage is standard but I upgraded to the SF brake like SAMNEV. The difference between the field and match barrels are the contour. The match barrel is larger in diameter. I don't recall if the match barrels are all made by Larue. I think they are. The field barrels are made by someone else...can't recall who. I believe it was Lothar but could be mistaken. When I bought my tOBR, it came with a field barrel and an upgrade certificate for the match. I got the match barrel when it became available. If this one has a field barrel, the coupon should be part of the deal. To tell you the truth, I didn't see much difference in accuracy. Both of the barrels shoot very well but the field grade does get warmer if you are firing rapid fire.

If you end up purchasing, I would call Larue and transfer the SN to yourself from the original owner. Makes any future dealings with warranty easier. However, warranty is the last thing you should worry about as they keep going and going

im sure ill get my a$$ blown up by the larue fan boys, but id bet money that a predator varmint (lighter weight varmint barrel) rock river arms AR would be just as accurate if not more accurate than the larue.... and with the new TRO handguard (top rail octagon) id bet you could get the whole package off gun broker for about $1100 ish?? Let the a$$ blowing up begin! hehehe jk I've owned over 8 RRA AR rifles that have all made their accuracy guarantee of .75moa for .223 or 1moa for .308 and beyond with 6x5 targets... with zero issues of FTF or FTE.... just waiting for bigjake to call me a RRA fanboy, start stopwatch NOW, set, GO! LOL hehehe jk

I know a 762 Predatobr used generally goes for 10% off new if in good conditon, maybe 15% max.

Not sure the exact meaning of field grade but I heard they were still good barrels. Sourced before Larue started making their own I believe.

The field grade barrel was Larue's early attempt at making barrels. Prior to them bringing barrel production in-house they were supplied by Lothar walther. The match grade barrels say "Rearden steel" on them and thus can easily be differentiated from the field grade. The field grade barrels say field grade on them. I'm not aware of any significant differences in taper as stated above.

Many of the field grade barrels were very good, and shot as well as the later match barrels that they now produce. There were a few turds I'm sure.

If the rifle is in good shape it probably won't sell for too much under retail. They hold value well. If the rifle is one of the ones that has a field grade and a match I would expect to pay at or above retail depending on how well the field grade barrel shot.

Since you mentioned suppressors I'll tell you that the platform was designed with a two position gas block. It was designed to run suppressed with a surefire k series suppressor. Since it is not a fully adjustable gas block there is no guarantee you will get your suppressor to run 100%. There are 2 different holes drilled into the barrel so you can't just slap an aftermarket block on it either. Just something to be aware of. The 16" and 14.5" varieties tend to be a bit more difficult to run suppressed in my opinion. A Socom or a Larue suppressor is pretty much guaranteed to work though.

Jays explanation of how the barrels came about with their names is what I was tracking. Larue is either a love or hate company. I personally like his products. Post of a WTB ad in the PX or check BARFCUM as there's usually one or two for sale over there.

I have a Larue PredatOBR 7.62 with a "Field Grade" barrel. It is sub .5 MOA The test target they sent with it was even a .4XX MOA group.

I bought one of their muzzle brakes for it, and I really like it. My LMT has a surefire brake. I can't say one is better than the other but the Larue one is sexy
