Hey Guys, I’ve been doing a lot of reading around Larue Tactical and have been through the threads that discuss their change to in-house barrels around 2013/2014. I know a lot of guys had some issues with them not meeting accuracy expectations/standards. My question; can anyone shed some light on the more recent production guns/barrels? (I’ve. 16,17,18). I’m curious to find out if this was just a learning curve for larue or if they still have some issues.

I have a friend that has one in 260 and it has shot in the .6 to .75 groups with Prime ammo.

Thanks man. To be honest, I read a lot about them on a different forum and there was tons of praise. I actually put an order in for a .308 Predatobr last Wednesday. After spending time on this forum I am definitely questioning if I made the right decision. Not sure if I should cancel and go the JP,
GAP or Seekins route.

Depends what your expectations are. I like their stuff but the barrel is to thin for my liking. I do have one of their .308 OBR’s with a LW barrel and it shoot really well.

Honestly, I am looking for a sub-moa gun that I can start doing more precision shooting with and start doing the occasional competition down the road. it will also be used for occasional white tail and hog duty. This also may sound dumb but I want a gun I can “grow into” as a better shooter. I plan on using it as a tool and handing it down one day and want to ensure getting a quality rifle.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I have 3 Larues ( 2 AR10s and an AR15). Haters will hate. They are accurate. Even the ones with the non-Larue barrels. I haven't seen much difference between original and the various vintage Larue barrels. If they had a learning curve, they didn't affect my rifles. And BTW, I also have a KAC ECC AR10 which I also love so I don't drink the Larue Kool-Aid.

Important thing to really understand is your expectation of accuracy. Is Larue "the most accurate"...fuck no. I know that is "sacrilege" amongst the Larue aficionados but my bud's JP is more accurate. It is also a lot more particular relative to ammo and the feed reliability in bad conditions isn't like the Larue or KAC.
If you are looking for ultimate accuracy, I would point you to JP or Les Baer. However, you won't be able to customize as much and you will sacrifice some field reliability.
You also need to learn to properly drive a semi. Not as easy as it appears but that is me.

Then you will definitely want to go JP, you are still in the same ballpark price wise but light years ahead of Larue. And JP takes care of it's Military and First Responders.

Jp all the way. I have never found my jp to sacrifice “field reliability”
Their more accurate, have nicer triggers, and more customizable as well.
The Larue hate comes from being an overpriced overhyped rifle.
Even the Lmt mws is a much better option for 30 percent less cost.
Bottom line, if you want the best go jp, if you want the best bang for your buck go Lmt mws. If you want swag caps go Larue ;)

Sub moa with a large frame gasser can take some practice. If you don't already own a LaRue, might not be a bad idea to check out the threads on this forum before you order. Check out @padom and his threads. Good one started by @wigwamitus, and one I started that garnered a lot of good info. Then again, you might talk yourself into something more expensive. If you can handle a few before you pay, that would also help.

Full disclosure: I own an 18" OBR that holds around minute out to 600 with an M118LR "clone" bulk ammo. It's reliable, don't think I've ever had a malfunction. However, I'm not a fan of the hand guard (only theirs will work). I think a lot of their products are overpriced, and I think you have to buy stuff you don't need. I've got plenty of hats, bottle openers, margarita mixers, provocative bumper stickers, etc. Ex., on the UU kit you get a trigger, a grip, "dillO dust," and a few other parts you might not need, but you still pay for them. I don't care for that.

If you can get past the ridiculous swag the rifles (at least mine) is reliable and accurate. If I fed it better ammo and was a better marksman the rifle would shoot better, I guarantee.

God bless America

I have a predatobr 7.62 and if I could do it again I'd rather go JP. I have one of the earlier tobrs and the barrels were just under 1 moa. I finally switched it out to proof barrel.

I grabbed a JP at a gun store and there's something about the JP that edges in quality. Especially when racking the bolt. Go JP, and cancel the larue now.

Hey Guys,

Just wanted to say thanks again for the recommendation for JP. Got my LRP-07 today in an 18” .308. Just mounted a night force 4-16x on it and will be breaking it in tomorrow.

You made a wise choice. I’ve been nothing but disappointed with LaRue barrels after all of the hype they get about being a precision weapon/barrel. My 149$ Rainier match barrel shoots MUCH better than either of the 2 LaRues I unfortunately bought.

I guess some of them do shoot. I mean, there’s no way ppl would be paying 3000$+ for 1.25-1.5moa rifles, right? I just know that I’m 0/2 on my purchases and 0/5 on barrels between myself and friends. That’s enough of a sample for me to steer clear from their overpriced stuff for life.
