LaRue Tactical OBR vs Sig 716 Precision...
Any input on which is better and why? Personally, I'm leaning more toward the LaRue Tactical OBR. Just wanted everyone's 2 cents.

Re: LaRue Tactical OBR vs Sig 716 Precision...

I'm kind of a novice at long range precision shooting and just getting into it. Since most of my friends are all "brute force" grunt style shooters, they say there is virtually no difference in the AR Platform. I just figured that cant be true based on the price difference. I just dont know the difference yet...

Re: LaRue Tactical OBR vs Sig 716 Precision...

Sig has had some pretty horrendous QC as of the past 4-5 years. Larue puts out a decent product and I've yet to hear an owner complain. The OBR was designed for long range precision, whereas the 716 is a confused gun where precision was pretty much an afterthought. OBR I would predict as being far more reliable as well, I haven't handled the sig but everything else out of new hampshire lately has been pretty ragged.

Re: LaRue Tactical OBR vs Sig 716 Precision...

Never seen, held, or shot the Sig, so I can't comment on which is better. I own an 18" OBR in 7.62. Its a helluva fine rifle. I doubt you'd be disappointed if you bought one. Accuracy and reliability are top drawer.

Re: LaRue Tactical OBR vs Sig 716 Precision...

Well I've eliminated one at least. Still leaning more toward the LaRue over everything really. GA10, SR and LWRC. Still leaning more toward LaRue. Unless someone has something incredibly awesome to say about the other three I mentioned there. Or am I just being too picky. Sorry, I'm spending 3k plus. I just want to make sure I'm spending my money on the right weapon...

Re: LaRue Tactical OBR vs Sig 716 Precision...

I chose the OBR because I had the chance to shoot one at a precision rifle course I attended. The rifle just flat ran. It had been shot supressed and unsupressed for hundreds of rounds without cleaning, and it went bang everytime. Reliability? Check. The owner was making routine hits with factory ammo out to 1150yds. Accuracy? Check. I was fortunate to be able to shoot his OBR supressed (basically no recoil) and the hits came as fast as you could pull the trigger (I was at less than 1150, can't recall the exact distance I believe it was ~955-ish, but could be wrong). Needless to say, after that experience I had to have one. Another 'Hider who was also in attendance who shot it also went home and sold some stuff to purchase one.

Never shot a rifle from the other builders you reference. I hear the GAP10 is pretty sweet. I am sure that's true. I don't believe these were available when I bought my OBR. Even if they had been, I still would've purchased the OBR. I got to have a test drive, and for me shooting was believing. First hand experience with accuracy and reliability in a platform inspires a good deal of confidence. Again, no criticism of other systems. No experience with 'em - can't comment on 'em. I just know what I know about the OBR, and I know its a great platform. The thing basically makes my boltguns obsolete. I am still learning how to run the semi- well... and loving every minute of it.

Re: LaRue Tactical OBR vs Sig 716 Precision...

I have no experience with the sig 716 but my OBR shoots the lights out and although I don't spend much time shooting "groups" it is a consistant 1/2 MOA rifle. I couldn't ask for anything more.

Re: LaRue Tactical OBR vs Sig 716 Precision...

According to what I read, the Sig looks like a piston operated, Armalite pattern rifle. That's pretty interesting. However, I think the OBR has better features.

Firearm Blog - Sig 716

Does anyone know what happened to the LWRC lawsuit against Sig regarding the Sig piston guns?

Re: LaRue Tactical OBR vs Sig 716 Precision...

A few months back I hosted a LaRue Rep here in MO to do a Demo with the local PD and to some individuals.

We spent two days out in over 100 degree heat chasing one hole.
We fired 168 Gold Medal Match and Federal 168 OTM M1A, and American Eagle 150 FMJ and it all shot the same POIPOA from this rifle.

These guns flat work, you cannot go wrong with a LaRue OBR or OBR LITE Their mounts are all very well made as well.

Pretty much.

Re: LaRue Tactical OBR vs Sig 716 Precision...

I can't speak for the Sig rifles, but if they are anything like their 1911's, I would'nt have one. I personally know two vendors that were subing out the 1911 work when Sig stiffed them on there work. The 2 companies are top rated companies that are top's in the 1911 field. I do have personal experience with Larue and you will be hard pressed to find better in their field. Did not try to steal the thread, but I have witnessed Sigs handywork.
