Gunsmithing Last round feed issue - AI 223 mags/Savage/CDI Precision

Hoping somebody with more experience than me could help me diagnose this issue...

Savage 110 long action, [MENTION=9794]CDiPrecision[/MENTION] Savage LA/308 mag box DBM, McMillan A5 inletted by CDI, AI polymer 223 magazines, 223 Ackley formed brass and 80gr A-Max @ 2.475" COAL.

I am experiencing the last round in the magazine consistently diving, presumably with it doing this as I load the second to last round. On occasion, this will happen with the last two rounds in the magazine. If I put upward pressure on the magazine as I run the bolt, the last round still dives.

Put BHA Mk.262 in the magazine and it runs with no issues.

Ideas?

I would try the opposite, pulling the mag away from the bolt. Just wonder if the bottom metal is seated a little deep, holding the mag a little too high.

If you have a few mags or your buddys do, check them all. I have a 700 in a McRee chambered in 300BLK. I have 6 mags and two or three of them, no matter what will not feed the last rounds reliably. the others are 100%. All mags are 100% factory and not messed with in any way. the only difference is they were bought at different times.

Hi Guys. We have seen this before, Its a somewhat rare problem, and usually happens with Savages and anything with a spiral fluted bolt(rarely). Whats happening is there is a cross pin in the front of the savage bolt. This holds the bolt head in place. Well there is a little edge there alot of times, and this snags the round in the mag underneath the one being fed into the chamber, and forces it down into the mag like this. Its the weirdest thing. IT wont do it in the 308 mags as the case head dia is larger and likley more drag oin the feed lips, so the 308 wont do this.

Easy fix, just blend in the edge, and smooth it out over a 1/4" or so rearwards on the bolt. This eliminates the step and it wont do it anymore. I have one here we just did and will post pics shortly.. thanks

After a few deep breaths, I took a dremel to my bolt in the area Jeff described above...and while I'm not ready to call it 100% fixed yet (only time at the range will tell) it is substantially better cycling rounds in my basement.

I will say my blending doesn't look 1/10 as clean as Jeff's, and I may have to go back and clean it up/make it longer depending on what I find at the range, but it looks like I'm on my way.
