She walked about 10 steps. If you look shot placement was right in the heart. She really didn’t even bleed externally. My energy number for elk is 1200 to be responsible. I have seen elk taken with 223 one shot under 200 yards with good placement. Knowing your abilities and knowing when you shouldn’t shoot regardless of caliber is more important than how big your gun is.Nice hunting rifle. How did that 143 ELDX do at that range? Did she drop, or get a run in? Where did your shot hit? Just curious about the viability (assuming good shot placement) of 6.5 CM on elk as I am getting ready to buy or build a rifle for a cow Elk hunt next year. I have a shredded rotator cuff and can't shoot heavy magnum calibers anymore, hell I just traded off a lightweight .308 because the recoil was too much for me. I know 6.5 is great for deer but was thinking of going 7mm-08 for Elk, your success gives me hope though. I'd really like to have one deer/elk rifle. I'm a good shot, at range as well, but alot of people swear 6.5CM is not enough for elk out beyond a couple of hundred yard. Not trying to start a "what caliber for XXXX hunting" thread (read a thousand of those), just interested in OP's experience.
I could of saved close to a pound with different bottom metal and no mini chassis. Though I am super satisfied with the recoil of this gun where it is. I think any lighter it would be a bit heavy and way harder to stay on target.Damn, that's badass...
Thumbs up!!!
