LC LR brass

Re: LC LR brass

This is a good question. Somewhere in my vast stash of LC, WCC, & WRA .308 brass are 3 or four pieces LC LR brass with the band of notches down by the case head. I see loading data that calls for this case, but am reluctant to use it if I don't know how the case capacity relates to standard LC brass. Someone here must've weighed the stuff. Maybe it's a secret. . . .

Re: LC LR brass

I don't have any LC LR brass, but I think it's similar to LC Match brass in that it doesn't have the crimped primer pockets. Perhaps there are other features that are different than LC Match. BTW, I have a batch of LC Match that has those serrations around the body of the brass near the base. The rest of my LC Match doesn't have these serrations.

On a 5.56mm a band means it was a blank round that someone trimmed to make a live case, not a great idea. On M852 7.62mm it means match brass, but not in 5.56mm. They didn't even make any "match" 5.56mm for the military in 1975.

Re: LC LR brass

Thanks! My friend thought that I could use them for .300 whisper if they were indeed sized & trimmed blanks, but I think I'm gonna recycle them. By the way, it looks like they had been fired, unless the guy sized them without the decapping pin

Will I think He is useing 5.56 cut down and resized to make a 30cal fit it for subsonic loads.(300whisper or 300fireball)

Chamber pressures for the subsonic loads I run are in the 35,000psi to 38,000psi range, so I thought I might be able to make it work, but I just don't want to get in the habit of pushing the envelope.
