New to the forum so I'll apologize in advance is this subject has been covered.

I am relatively new to the "gun world". Even though I'm 66 and have lived in the country all my live, I do not hunt. In fact, as I look out my back family room window I see 5 deer eating apples off the ground under my apple tree. I don't eat venison and would get no pleasure out of killing some thing I would not us.

3 years ago, I started shooting and have numerous pistols and two Rock River (one operator LH, and one 20" Predator pursuit, both with Nikon Scopes calibrated for the 223. We have a 500 yd. range close by and I can ding the dong regularly with both guns. Both of these guns can be shot by a right hander or left hander, but the left hander cost me 500 dollars more that the more expensive Predator Pursuit. I'm hooked!

[/U]To the point, I want to shoot further distances, out to 1000 yards and will be trying to do an economic custom build. I've looked and looked for Remminton 700 and Savage LH Bolts and they are tough to find.

I want to consider as part of this build, a left bolted rifle with a modified right sided ejection. I'ved worked with tool makers all my life and these guys a SMART. Are there good Smiths out there that can do a bolt mod to do what I need without costing my first born? i am sure this is not a new concept. BTW, I live up by Erie, PA.

Please don't tell me to learn to shoot righthanded, or shoot a right handed gun left handed, that is not what I want to do.

I thank you in advance for your constructive suggestions.

I had mine built on a LH remmy bolt from an SPS. But if I'm not mistaken one or more of the higher end custom action makers make a LH action. It seems like I read about it on here or somewhere. But I can't reember which company it was.

I've lived my whole career thus far shooting left handed with 'wrong' handed rifles and pistols. All my issued bolt rifles have, of course, been right handed. You just adapt, and with your own technique learn to cycle the bolt just as fast for a quick follow up shot as a right handed shooter can.

I do have a Savage 10 FLCP-K that Chris Bezzina of Savage Arms presented me for my help testing one of their projects. I love it and there is no problem switching back and forth. I felt so comfortable and natural with the left hand action I later purchased the Remington 700P LTR LEFT HAND, .308 Fluted.

I know Savage makes rifles and has actions right hand, left eject and I'm sure any of the quality action companies can make whatever you want.

Best of luck with your build!

Rcr...as a fellow lefty...I went thru same questions a few years ago....I liked the idea of left bolt, right port cause I had shot right handed rifles for so long and was use to looking into the port on the right....

I am not sure it's worth all the extra coin to modify one...prob easier to just buy one new or used...although finding a used one will be really hard...defiance makes what your looking for as well as Bat....

BTW...I love eating venison....too bad I am not there to help with the apple stealing critters...lol

If you want I can send you some pics of my rig later....

Have a good holiday

stiller makes a real nice left handed action but the cheaper way is a remmy 700 lefty action and build the rifle around it. that is what i am doing now. i shot my first competition and i was using a RH bolt gun. i came to realize that a left handed rifle would have really helped me on a couple of stages. so i am in the process of building a lefty competition rifle.

try gunbroker, they have several LH remington 700's on there. i am going with a 308 so i can build a 6.5 creedmoor from it. and mcree's precision sells left handed stocks with folding butt stocks.

Left bolt right port (LBRP) or RBLP
very common config for dedicated bench rigs, my f open rig was setup that way
Not sure if you can convert COTS action but defiance and others offer them.

I would skip truing a COTS action unless one is pert much given to you
The cost diff is nominal and a custom will always be tighter than a reworked COTS action, i would just buy a custom n be done
Not a cheap sport to get into but "buy once cry once" will save you coin in long run
shoot me a pm if ya need more info

I thank all that have responded. The only reason I am considering this type of set up is because I can't find a Left Handed Reminton 700 or Savage LH receiver. I'd love to find a stripped receiver or donor gun at a reasonable price. I do need to decide on the cartridge. Was leaning towards a 7MM-08 but some folks have suggested 243 or 6.5. Need to make up my mind. I'm not looking at hot loads to burn out my barrels.

Not looking for a big buck project. Will have a good barrel; Krieger, Lijula or something else, Bell and Carlson Medalist stock, Jewell or Timney trigger. Not looking for a 20 lb. chunk. I want a LEFT HANDED long shooter.

I do not expect to be the best but want to be competitive and have fun. Fun is the operative word. I am truly enthused. Any and all suggestions are appreciated. Thank you

Nesika makes an action with left side bolt and right side eject. Dave Tooley works with these and is as good as anyone. Now your terminology of "economic" "custom build" probably leaves some room for interpretation as neither is cheap but hey, what of value really is?

See if jcvibby has anything he wants to sell. He is great to deal with and an accomplished long-ranger.

Check lh for sale page in the wanted to buy section.

If it was me I would go 6.5 SAUM on a LA 700. There are lots of LH 700 7mm remmys out there SA rifles are much harder to find. I have a LH LA 700 that I plan to chamber to a 6.5 SAUM with LA freebore. I think for longrange the magnum boltface 700 is going to be really tough to beat in the performance per dollar ratio.

There is a reasonably priced LH LA McMillan A5 for sale here somewhere. 6.5 and 7mm barrels are plentiful.

What do you want to spend?
