Lehigh Brass Bullets

Re: Lehigh Brass Bullets

The short answer Yes . Any solid bullet that is harder for the lands to engrave must cause a bit more wear . The military does not have to worry about how long a barrel lasts they are buying new ones with OUR money.
However if you want the down range ballistics you have to pay the piper some place. The difference will not be great and could be less than the wear caused by bad cleaning techniques etc .
If you really need the performance then you don't have much choice. I personally would not shoot a lot of them unless it was a dedicated barrel for just that bullet.
Another thing is watch your twist rates because these solid brass bullets are very long for their weight.
The experts will come in all over this thread and dissagree because they are selling the bullets.

I'm not an expert on anything but staying alive. I'm not trying to sell anything.

But Country has the right idea. Basic metalurgy is sometimes a pain in the butt. But it's going to happen.

How fast it wears the barrel depends on how many of them, how hot, and how fast you shoot them.

Good luck with your choices.

Re: Lehigh Brass Bullets

No there is not a problem using them but i found i had to clean the barrel before i switched from brass to copper type bullets. They wont really wear your barrel any more its the heat that will destroy the barrel. I have noticed some extra wear with the harder type like the copper nickel but the difference was minimal.
