Leica Geovid HD-B vs Swav EL Range

I apologize if this has been beat to death already, but I've searched quite a bit and can't find anything where these two Rangefinding binos have been tested side by side. Does ANYONE have any field experience with both of these? I'm looking to get a pair of 10x42's but can't decide on which to get. I've looked through both and find the EL's to be easier to get field of view and I personally think the glass is better but I'm not afraid to jump to the Leica if the rangefinder is superior. I'd like to be able to range a mile in perfect circumstances, maybe both are capable of that?

Any insight anyone can give would be helpful.

The rangefinder in the Leica is better. You can create your own ballistics curves and import them. I've read that the Leica glass is a little compromised compared to the non-RF binos, possibly due to the coatings needed by the RF, but in this comparison Rangefinder Binoculars Reviews & Field Tests: Ranging Performance Results | PrecisionRifleBlog.com they perform really well.

Yeah I read through that, unfortunately the Swavs weren't part of it. I really don't care about the ballistics part of the Leica's, as I wouldn't rely on that data anyway. Not to say there wouldn't be a time I might use it...just not a deal maker/breaker.

If you won't "rely" on that feature then don't pay for it.

My take when I went to buy was that the Leica glass was noticeably better than the Swaro. I compared the side buy side, indoors and out. Winner-Leica Then I did the ranging test, Winner-Leica by virtue of greater distance. I liked the aiming point and display better too. The only thing that bothered me was when I collapsed them down to fit my eye span the display wasn't perfectly level. I will point out the "B" model wasn't available at the time but I was fine with that.

I was shocked because until then I had always observed first hand the Swaro's having better glass. Having said that any kind of optic visually speaking is subjective so it's all about what YOU like the best.

For me with the Leica it wasn't really that I felt the glass wasn't as good but I couldn't really get a full unblurred field of view. Not sure if it was the design of the eye cups or what. I have looked through both but not side by side, I just played with both at SHOT the last 2 years.

I have been looking at the new leicas hd b they will range to 2000yds that's an improvement over the hd model . the one thing I don't like reading about the new ones, the ballistic program is only moa or inches no mils

I'll have to ck mine. I'm a moa guy, but I did have to set the binos for us instead of euro. Specs.
During setup. I Really like mine. It was a tough decision. I did the side x side with the
Swaro. To be honest, I thought the Swaro glass might be a bit better. The Leica ranged
better. Winner! So far, the ballistic program is pretty close to actual dope.I need to mess with
the numbers a bit.

Any chance the Swaro will get me out to a mile (under good circumstances) or am I asking too much out of it. They say it's a 1500 but the Swav rep at SHOT was saying he's been told they will do 2000 yds, not sure what to believe.

I have owned all 3 including the Zeiss RF. Still have the Zeiss. The HD-B's are nice and compact laser is WAY better than old Geovids. I didnt like the swaro's as much as zeiss or leica. The Zeiss are bigger, but the glass is AMAZING. The zeiss will range to about 1750, leica to 2200 but i never shoot that far when hunting. I use the terrapin for LRF that beats them both. Leicas ballistic app is useless since its missing MIL's and takes a while to load. Traided the HD-B's after a week just because the zeiss glass was much better. The leica is smaller if thats whats important to you.

I have the zeiss rf and have quite a bit of field use behind them...(hunting) and it's better then the Swarovski elr for my eyes...checked out the Leica's at Dallas Safari show....just didn't impress me enough to ditch the zeiss RF and make the move...but I do like all the things the Leica's can do but I prefer better field of view with the fast ranging that the zeiss provides.

I don't think you could go wrong with either one. I liked the feel and what seemed as a slightly more compact size of the Swarovski, but I liked the smaller reticle in the Leica much better. I would recommend to demo them both side by side because I think it will come down to personal preference.

I'm leaning towards the EL Range, mainly because I own a pair a EL's currently and love the glass BUT if the RangeFinder isn't up to snuff I might get the Leica.

Is it really true that the Leica HD-B is missing MIL? I owned a Lrf 1600-B where you could get the values in MIL.

Just ordered a geovid HD-B and got kinda worried when i read this.
