Leica HD-B 3000

My 10x42mm Geovid HD-B 3000 arrived last week. They’ll get run hard shortly.

I agree with STWCattle. The aiming reticle should be smaller.

I’d also like to see distance values displayed closer to the aiming reticle. As it is, measured values are displayed well below and outside the aiming reticle’s frame/field of view. The awkwardness imparted by this layout is particularly obvious when using the scan function.

My second tweak would be to lighten requisite pressure for activating the buttons. It’s like having a 6lb trigger pull. While consistent with the previous generation Geovid, they’re still too heavy.

I haven’t had a chance to thoroughly evaluate the optics, but at first glance they look good. I was quite impressed with the previous generation’s optics. They weren’t equal to my Leica Ultravid HD Plus, but were really good.

One interesting thing about the Geovid 2700 and 3000 compared to the Edition 2200 and Edition 2017 can be found on Leica’s spec sheets. The accuracy specification for the new models isn’t as good as for the the last generation.

But im still happy with the binos. The glass is as good as it gets for my 50 year old eyes and the Leicas seem built to handle anything I will throw at them. The new Leica HD B 300's will likely be the last high end binos I'll ever buy.
My wife and I each have a Vermejo Ranch cow elk and deer hunt in 10 days. I'm looking forward to long days glassing with the new Leicas.

The Geovid seems to have more eye relief and might have a more forgiving eyebox.

I’m anxious to set up it’s ballistic functions. It’s curious that Leica capped the angle corrected range function (Equivalent Horizontal Range) at 1200 yards. I’d be curious to learn if the limit was chosen due to a limitation of the technology or if it was selected for some other more arbitrary reason. I’m inclined to think the latter.

I am pretty sure the limitation on the EHR / Ballistics function is a hardware limitation on calculations. I suspect you may see that change in the future as versions of the hardware change significantly. The Lecia's haven't evolved much over the past few years, and I would expect to see a major change to keep up with the other players in the industry. Most of the changes have so far been tweaks over the past few versions (just changes to the laser, but not changes to the other sensors and ballistics).

Agree with you again Kingston, the Ultravid's are as good set of binocular's. I planning time on our trip to NM to really decide of the Geovid glass is that much better to my eyes. At 50, I really can't see high glass quality that younger eyes can.

To commit on Lecia binos being a bit behind in technology compared to other's, I know it won't be long Lecia will bring bluetooth and what i consider for myself, a bunch of uneeded technology to a set of binoculars. Im wont be impressed by how many battery powered devices a set of binoculars can connect to in the future. I know the masses will, and thats fine. It just lkely wont be for me. Just another reason, this set of Geovid's will most likely be my last set of ranging binoculars.

Opinion needed here please, I just got a set of Geovid hdb3000s and I noticed right away something was different than my 2700 crf2700....... Well, the aiming circle is out of alignment. returns come from the very bottom of the broken circle actually the bottom gap where the circle is broken and maybe very slightly favors the left side of the break and very slightly favors below the break but barely. I actually think that I can be even more precise with it being there but it is I'm sure farther out of line than leica would say is spec.

Again I'm positive I can be way more precise with it the way it is because the circle is a touch too big in my opinion but just dont really know what to do.


And to give an idea the break in the circle appears to be really close to 1 MOA wide.

Question for those of you who have tried them: I have an opportunity to buy a like new 10x42 HD-B 2000 for a great price. Are the 2200, 2700 or 3000 worth a grand or more than the 2000’s?

A friend of mine have compared his 2000's to my new 3000's and our conclusion was glass was equal with our eyes that day but the 3000's out ranged the 2000's as they should.
The 2000's will in my opinion will continue to get the job done, as they always have on game at shooting distances. If your application is MOA targets, the 3000's are better,
I know of a pair of 2000's that are coming up for sale when he gets his 3000's and I plan to buy them for my wife so I can get my Trinovid's back. I think that much of the HD-B 2000's and believe they are still a damn good set of binoculars.

I’m just getting back from a NW Oregon Roosevelt Elk hunt where I spent 8 days glassing and ranging with the new Geovid HD-B 3000. It was fantastic. I found it very responsive and accurate even free handed. I was getting consistent repeat ranges, with the instrument held freehand, to over 2800 yards in bright sunlight. Leica’s custom calculated ballistic data very closely mirrored data generated by JBM. I might even take back my previous comment about the range button/trigger being too stiffly sprung. My only new comment is that I’d like a 10mph wind value displayed after the calculated drop value.

My wife and I just got in from NM and we got along great with the New HD-B 3000's as well. No ranging problems whats so ever in clean air. We had a snow storm one day and ranging was not good at all. I wish I had my old original Terrapins with me to see how they would had done in the snow. Image quality and brightness is simply amazing and bright clean mountain air.. I never got around to setting up the ballistics function to my rifle. Main reason I didn't is exactly what kingston mentions about the lack of a wind input. But I'll give it a try eventually. All in all, very I'm pleased with the HD-B 3000's.

The 3000 HD-B's have been selling as quickly as we can get them in and folks are pretty much in line with the above as far as feedback

I have both and It appears bigger in my 10x42s but I think it's mainly just due to the extra magnification. In other words I think it's the same size on target.

Technically they are the same size, same part, however, it will appear larger in the 10x as the CRF is a 7x
