LEO Help with Daughters ipod theft

Never had to deal with this kind of thing as an Adult/Father, so not sure what direction to go.
My 12yo Daughters ipod was stolen by another kid while at a Teen Church function. Pastor says he is handling it and questioning kids about it, but not getting anywhere.
Daughter found out today who has it through another kid. My gut reaction is to grab the punk by his throat and throw him up against the wall, but that would not be wise haha.
Worth calling the Police? Seems they have better things to do.
Contact the school Principal?
I hate this feeling. Rarely do I feel helpless haha. Things were so much easier when I was younger and could just pound somebody's face in haha. Now I have to do the Right/Responsible thing, but not sure what that is.

If there is a school resource officer I would go talk to him because the little shit most likely will bring it to school. Also have all the info for your daughters IPOD serial number things she may have on the thing hidden files etc that proves it as hers. Another option is to go talk to his parents about it. They may actually care that their kid is a thief. Going to the cops can be a help depending where you live. If you live in a large municipality then they probably could care less. Small town police may be a little more receptive. The little shit could be on some sort of probation and that opens up some doors as well. Not likely at 12 (assuming the thief is 12)but these days who knows. Good luck!

Violence against some one else's kid just makes you look bad. Talk to the minister and tell him either he gets it back or the police will.

If the evidence is solid go visit the kids dad and approach it the same way you would want the same condition brought to your attention. If things go south from there then back off and get others involved.

Why not just go to the kid's parents knock on their door and ask for it back coupled with what your next steps will be if it's not returned. Then kick their dog on the way out.

Isnt there a way your cell service provider can track the phone by the gps? I know my daughter was able to do this with hers, before the battery went dead.

I would call them and ask how they can help before you accuse someone of theft.

school, parents, police. I don't see a minister instilling the fear of god into a thief. I had a ring walk away at a church camp out in the country. Suspects could be counted on two hands. Never heard another peep.

Depending on the version of the iPod, you should be able to track it with the "find my iPhone app". This is assuming the feature was actually turned on the iPod. If that doesn't work, talk to the parents and pastor and if that doesn't work, go to the police. Just don't lose your cool.

If you're somewhat certain where it's at, do what Binder said, less kicking the pooch. No luck, the kid will be getting his first car soon. Most likely parked on the street.

Been gone Pig hunting all weekend. Nothing much to update. The Pastor has been no help at all. He says he talked to the kid on facebook and also in person and he is denying it of course. According to my Daughter, several kids including the suspects friends say he has it. I have not yet moved on this yet though. We are going to contact the school and the police. Wife knows the captain, so she is going to call in a favor.

The Pastor wont do shit he wont want to "offend" the kids parents. The school resource officer wont do shit either, they have to option of putting the issue on the back burner. My nephew was getting bullied/beat up by a significantly older and larger kid (my nephew is in 1st grade, a hulk of a first grader but no match for a 11 year old) the resource officer didn't do shit after the 3rd time there was a face to face with the kids parents and they didn't give a shit either. So I busted out the focus mitts and let him kick at me a bit, and you bet your sweet ass that when the bully got kicked in the balls then monkey stomped by a kid half his size and 5 years younger his parents cared and magically, so did the resource officer as well as everyone who should have givin' a shit to begin with. I'd bet if my brother would have called the cops first time go that little shit wouldn't have to wait another 10 years for his balls to drop. You gotta get more people involved if you want to see a good or any outcome. Call the cops and have them conduct an investigation, some states a value of 200 or more constitutes felony larceny so they'd better do their damn job.

I dont know, i think a 12 or 13 yo kid is still young enough to be positively influenced. Hopefully police intervention into the situation may change is whole outlook on life. Maybe no dad in the picture or a D-bag of a male role model. eh positive role models can have a huge impact on a young mind.

In my experience, this often leads to the kid purposely destroying and dumping it.

You pay your taxes, call the cops. I would gladly handle that call in my district, Ipods are expensive.
