Les Baer .308 or GA Precision GAP 10 Creedmoor?

In recent months, I've taken more notice of the vids and comments from people regarding the GAP 10 6.5 Creedmoor semi. Very impressive groupings and long range hits with the GAP 10. And GA Precision really needs no introduction on product quality and performance.

Still, I have a Les Baer .308 that someone will need to pry from my hands the day I die because I just love everything about its accuracy, groupings and overall performance.

I know the 6.5 Creedmoor and .308 are pretty similar, and to be honest, I'm not certain I could ever shoot well enough to know if any difference does exist. But I was curious what others think or whether they have experience between the two - Les Baer .308 & GAP 10 6.5 Creedmoor.

my baer 308 34" 308 monolith has been super accurate. don't think they make rifles any more though.

Besides components, there is not really going to be a difference between the two. both are going to be lasers. I think that the GAP is probably a little more appealing as seems as if it is configured with a modern hand guard and adjustable gas system. I don't see either of these two things as being a game changer but if one is going to drop 4k on either, it would be nice to be able to mount an acra plate or illuminator on it if one wants.

I also like that GAP can be ordered in a number of calibers which i am not too sure if thats an option with less bare is it seems like their website is not particularly the most up to date.

I can go over to the GAP site and kind of get an idea of what I would like to order where as with LB, one could look at the site and ask themselves if they are still in business?

Save your money and buy a Seekins Precision SP10 builders kit, have Craddock Precision or Compass Lake spin you up a Bartlein or Krieger Barrel and build it yourself.

I appreciate the comments. Sometimes I get super-focused on a gun, and cant get it off my mind until I buy it. I have to admit, I like my .308 alot but just seeing enough reason to spend alot for something pretty similar. GAP 10 is a good one, no doubt. Thanks for your comments.

I agree with both of the above. I have a Les Baer Swat Sniper in 308 and love it. And Davsco is correct Les doesn't build rifles any more.

I'll chip in my 0.02 here. I tried one of the builders listed above for a 6.5 CM. Since that barrel/upper went back and for 2 months I've not heard peep - just like the 7 months I waited on it, I'd stay with GAP. You want somebody who is going to stand behind their work. That's not going to be one of the guys listed above (so far in this discussion. I'd say, but I want my damn upper back; besides nobody would believe me anyway. Going with these "custom" barrel spinners sounds great...until they get a nice big fat contract for DOD work and then they completely forgot about what made their reputation - the small customer. Or they start with wild ass theories like carbon rings in a barrel with < 40 rounds through it causing massive shifts in accuracy.

I've never been so disappointed in my life as to have a 1600 upper that doesn't shoot as well as a 399 dollar Mauser M18 (by far!!). I'm sure a lot of folks (including builder) would say it's my inexperience or the ammo. If that were so, then how is it the M18 works!!??? How is it I can shoot a fellow range rat's Savage AR-10 in 6.5 to < 1MOA first time I'd ever even pulled the trigger? So, be careful, do a LOT of research. If you go with a small "spinner", get a WRITTEN guarantee that it will shoot less than 1MOA or screw them!! That was my mistake - to not get it in writing.

As always it's about the application. Most of the guys I shoot PRS with are shooting 6mm of some variant, but we have at least one guy that shoots .308 and he has no problems hitting the 1k targets. I started with 6.5CM for the reduced recoil, (helps to be able to see your impacts), and have now gone to 6MM GT. In a gas gun I don't have anything other than .223, but am interested in building a 6mm ARC. When the .224 Valkyrie came out it was touted as a longer range round for the AR15 platform, but I don't know anyone that has had good luck with it...except one of our top shooters and he uses it in a bolt gun, so I'll probably hold off for a while to see how ARC plays out.

Any of the large format AR's are going to be tough to tune out the muzzle jump with that big old bolt cycling, and heavier bullets going down the pipe, but if that's not a concern of yours, I say stay with the .308.
