Does anyone have one? If so whats the verdict? I have a few $$$ put away for the next rifle. I have narrowed it down to either a Les Baer or SAKO TRG, and I am wondering on how Les Baer has stacked up against the TRG.
I have had excellent luck so far with a Les Baer Thunder Ranch .45acp and AR15. I really like the fact that the company has a garantee of 1/2MOA 10shot group.
I don't really want to build a custom rifle, no patient enough.

Also how does the .260 stack up, never owned one, but have both .243 and .308

Thanks and I did try to search. I either came up with wayyy to many results or none.

Re: Les Baer Tactical Recon?

For what the Les Baer costs, you could build the damn thing yourself for less.

Bell and Carlson adjustable stock; 450 bucks
Shilen barreled action 1500
cdi bottom metal and inlet job about 340

It has the added benefit of being a "Rem-Age" action, a 700 footprint with a floating bolthead and barrel nut.
Buy a .260 and .308 barrel.

They are Stiller actions with fluted bolts, very good stuff.

OK say I was wondering about the rifle as a whole, not just about the value of it, or if you could build it cheaper. This one will be bought off the shelf.
My question is more of what is more durable, accurate, reliable, and quality of components used to build.
I have been saving for a while and I don't really want to wait to have a custom rifle built. Did that with my hunting rifle, almost went crazy with my OCD.

Re: Les Baer Tactical Recon?

Well, I'm sure they function fine, Les Baer is a very reputable company, but I think much of what you are paying for is the name.
They use a Stiller action in their rifle, oh wait, so does Shilen!
Honestly, the local gun shop has one in stock, they are very attractive rifles, but as I said, you could order basicly the same parts and assemble it yourself for 1000 bucks less.

You can of course order a completely assembled rifle from Shilen in a Mcmillan stock and it is still less than the Les Baer which is in a good stock, but not as good as a McMillan stock.

If you want to pay someone 1000 bucks for a skim bed job and torqeuing two screws down for you, have at it, I'm absolutely certain you'll be pleased. Also, to top it off, the Les Baer has a Wyatts DBM, while a decent DBM, it is NOT in the same class as the CDI with an AI mag DBM.

If I was looking to spend 3000 bucks on a rifle that was going to spend considerable time in the field, I'd buy an AI.

Re: Les Baer Tactical Recon?

TRG! No question! The other may be as good as advertised but TRG has a reputation for being the real deal. It doesn't need a name like Tactical Recon to make it sell.
