This may have been hit in this thread before this, but does anyone think China would follow maritime law and NOT arm their merchant vessels? I suspect they would have regular troops on vessels, armed to the teeth in very short order. Would be a curious cat and mouse game for sure. The first few crews to get captured YouTube video executions would be epic. ISIS would be like WTF, these guys are messed up...

Refusal to allow them to dock would be a good first step.

Tangent alert: This article makes some very good points on the Spratly Islands and others but did not mention the geology of the islands. All of China’s island military installations are built on dredged sand. Those of you that are old enough to remember the San Francisco quake of 1989 the Fisherman’s Wharf area shook like jello because the whole area was filled in and filled in with rock and more solid shit than the sand used in the Spratlys. The CIA does employ geologists to analyze underlying formations of potential targets. If shit goes kinetic with the PRC I can almost guarantee that the Air Force or Navy will drop some ordnance designed to maximize a sub surface shockwave and cause liquefaction. What I hear you saying is that the MOAB (Mother Of All Bombs) would be renamed ID's (Island Dissolver's)
MOAB generates an airborne pressure wave great for killing humans and flattening houses above grade, think bunker buster set to go off 20-30 feet below ground with a low frequency explosive similar to ANFO. If we want to capture an airfield intact and kill all the humans in the area and don't care about the structures the MOAB would be a good option but the MOAB has to be dropped out of the back of a cargo plane that would get shot down before it got close to the target, this ain't Asscrackistan.
The MOAB is too long and too wide to fit in the bomb bay of a B-1, B-2 or B-52, bunker busters OTOH.

I think it's pretty clear what my path on this adventure would be.
Besides if I missed seeing all the action, I could just rent a drone from Theis and simply watch all the festivities and doom from around the globe.
Perhaps even get advertising revenue off the live video stream feeds to help defray the cost of drone rental & satellite data links.
I think 1J should re-enact his avatar livestreamed from the poop deck each morning. China would quiver in fear at our physical dexterity and stand down.
