Re: Let's solve this savage dbm problem
ok. lets not reinvent the wheel. the same mag fits all savage factory DBM models, is that correct? that DBM uses the base of the mag to center it in the mag well. thats why the SSS box extension is built the way it is. we dont need another DBM. Jeff at CDI has that covered. and from what Jeff told me, for my HS stock thats inlet for savage DBM from the factory, his DBM will fit with the only modification being inside the stock. and unless you have the newer models, the 10pc and possibly the 10fcp-k, neither of which i am familiar with, his DBM is a drop in. am i hearing people right that the mag release is now in the trigger guard? Jeff has been working on that. myself, i really dont mind the mag release is in front of the mag. myself, id take another extension box. ill let someone use mine to copy it.
a few things about this glenn that you may not know just because there are so many options and approaches to this and your not a savage owner. no attack meant, just some thoughts and info. im all about moving this forward, not alienating people

Here are the 5 issues when it comes to building a DBM for the savage rifles.
1) actions are not the same, screw hole spacing is different.
the ACE conversion that SSS offers fits both screw spacings with a clever oblong bushing
2) Rear TG screw is where the latch needs to be so it might take more to make it work than a rem.
i think you mean the rear action screw, front trigger guard screw
3) Most that own one are not willing to shell out 300$ and would rather just use the savage DBM or buy a custom rifle.
i myself have spent $300 on just the SSS 9 round mags, i would have gone CDI from the start had i known the SSS were so rare
4) everyone wants to use their factory stock and expect them to fit perfect (too many different ones)
jeffs DBM will fit factory DBM inlets. they may not fit flush with the stocks, but they function in the factory inlet. ive seen it in an A5 and its not flush, but im ok with that
5) Not enough interest.
i think if this was cross posted on a few other forums such as savage shooters forum, we would have 50 people.
Find 50 people that would want one and I will build one. That's what it takes to cover my development, engineering and setup time. Now pick what action spacing to do it from because im not going to developed one for all of them and most people don't know what one they have anyway. Im lucky if some can tell me if its a long or short action. A friend purchased a 10fp LE with the McMillan stock a few years ago just to let me build a DBM for. There was not enough demand. I have said that for years and always get about 10-15 guys to commit and that's it. Everyone says build it and they will come, I learned my lesson there with savage bases and that's why we only stock the 10fp base even though its not a good seller for us. Otherwise we would stock all of them.
savage shooters tend to be bargain types. no offense guys, or maybe we just want something different. i started with an EGW base. i upgraded to a ferrel. i paid extra for the HS stock. i think savage people will pay if the price is right. but its hard to beat what you get from Jeff for $230 + mag costs. and alot of guys go savage and go even thrifier with a stevens base to build on.
This would be the new Ambi push button design with AI mag's.
Fit perfect on McMillan and manners stocks, wont guarantee it will fit flush with factory stocks.

again, no offense, just info and some thoughts based on me following savage stuff. im sure alot of it is that people take the cheaper road. Glenn, your stuff is top notch. your ar15 lower is a work of art. i see your rings holding some top shelf glass. not alot of savage guys run that stuff, but a few do.
we have CDI and Vbull DBM already available for the savage. im my opinion, lets stick with Jeff. he was the one to do this for the savage market. we do not need another complete DBM from anyone, just a high capacity mag. i sent an Email to accurate mag. its my understanding they make the factory mag for savage.
now if someone could get another mag to fit the savage DBM, cool. if someone could copy or redesign the SSS extension, all the better. but if it comes down to new completely new bottom metal, lets stick with CDI or Vbull. the whole reason i want hi-cap mags is to avoid the initial expense of a new DBM swap.
do the math. $310 for new DBM and 1 10 round mag. or 4 $80 SSS mags for $320 and they are plug and play. which do we want?
am i making sense?
also, can someone post pics of this newer style mag release please? ive got the 10fcp. mag release is in front of the mag. i can post pics and i have a caliper and both a factory 4 round and a SSS 9 round.
