I'm thinking along the same lines as you.

I'm wanting an optic for my 16" REPR and still think I'm going to want one of the new 1X8 optics, but this MK6 1X6 with the TMR would work until one of the other scopes become available - whenever the hell that's supposed to be.

Not being stuck with a BDC ret means I could then transfer the MK6 to one of my longer barreled 5.56 AR without having a inaccurate reticle.

Just trying to think ahead.

I ordered the 762 CMR BDC ret. I plan to use mine more for close in shooting, mostly within 200 yard, but I wanted to be able to make the occasional shots out around 600 yards. I was told their custom dials will be available for it not long after it is released so I will pick those up for $60 or so.

I am disappointed with the .2 mil adjustment on the 1-6 CMR-W models. For me .72" minimum adjustment at 100 meters is too coarse.

I totally understand the CMR-W reticles. Again, it's really all about the target audience, military using M855 in a 14.5" barrel between 100-400 meters with a need for rapid engagement on a "two-way" range. That muzzle velocity of 2970 fps is right out of the M4 -10 TM.

The TMR is great for bench shooting and long range engagements where you have the element of surprise, but getting accurate suppressing fire into the hands of the grunts on the ground in Afghanistan seems to be a worthy goal in the initial stages. Perhaps the TMR will be available later down the road for us steel and paper shooters.

Sweet, I pre-ordered mine yesterday. Leupold has an awesome Mil/Fed program, gotta respect that. Based on that, I would expect the open market version for the 7.62 and 5.56 to be the same price and right about $1,900-$2,000. Hope that helps a bit, good luck!

Why would you say the TMR is only good for paper and steel shooters? I know a lot of active LE snipers who love the TMR. Dont know why they dont offer it in the MK6. That reticle with illumination, id buy in a heart beat.

I agree if it's sitting on one gun all the time and you're using ammo matched to reticle the BDC is the way to go. But if the scope is not sitting on the same gun all the time and the ammo specs don't match the reticle the TMR makes perfect sense. There are a lot of people who would like the added flexibility of the TMR, even on a 1-6.

With them raising the bar on their glass, their greatly reported customer service, and this kind of discount, I am definitely jumping on their bandwagon. If the Mark 6 1-6 works out well then I will likely grab either the Mark 6 3-18 or the Mark 8 3.5-25 for my REPR as soon as I sell some other stuff, like my first born.

Going with the 1-6 cmr-w for my REPR, from Scott at Liberty Optics. The bdc will act more like a poor man's horus for me, which will speed up corrections in 3gun. Otherwise, I seldom shoot past 150 meters.

The problem with the TMR is that the illumination isn't daytime visible whereas it is on the CWR.

Ok, got the scope in yesterday and mounted it on my SR-15 E3 SBR (14.5".) Obligatory pics:

First impressions/random thoughts:

I like the reticle. I have had horshoe dot ACOGs and I much prefer this horseshoe dot (I have the CMR-W 5.56 reticle.)
Where I find the ACOGs outer ring to be too big I find the 7 moa outer ring of the mk 6 perfect. And where I find the center dot of the acog to be too big (3 moa if I remember,) the .5 moa dot was never too small on the Leupold. Reason being, the horseshoe at 7moa is precise enough for anything requiring the speed that would result in the center dot getting lost. I didn't have access to much past 200m to I can't comment on the holdovers or bdc knobs. I can say that the reticle and scope was fast enough to engage man size targets at ALMOST Aimpoint speed, but precise enough that clay pidgeons at 200m were not an issue with the proper support.

Notice how I said "almost" Aimpoint fast? Well, because of the nature of it being a scope and for reasons I have read and don't recall the reason, a 1x scope is not as forgiving as an Aimpoint. My brain did not process the image the same as an aimpoint. For some reason, and this is odd, shooting with both eyes open which is something I do magnified or not produced an odd "doubling" effect some times where I would see two targets. Probably an issue with my brain, but I wanted to note it.

Another gripe- it was noted on the shot show 2012 models that the illumination disappeared with different head positions but this was supposedly rectified with the production models. Well.... this is a production model and it definitely suffered from that issue. I will note however that while I noticed it at 100y on 1x, some dry fire speed drills at home later on did not seem to produce the same effect. I am interested to shoot this rifle/scope combo for speed at CQB distances to see what it'll do.

As a final gripe, the eyebox at 6x was pretty unforgiving.

Now, I know I focused a lot on the negatives, but actually I really liked this scope. I am excited to shoot it at distance. The glass was very nice, and I really enjoyed the reticle. Having 6x for me is huge. I replaced a 3x ACOG and to me this scope is much faster and much more precise. Much more versatile.

I'll try to make some updates as I get a bit more time on the scope.

Do you have it on a canted or flat mount? If it's in a canted mount, that may be the cause of your doubling effect. I ran into the same issue with my CQBSS, but after I switched over to a flat mount that went away. David S posted up the reasoning for it before when using canted bases and 1x- scopes, and why there's a doubling effect.

I'm really interested in this scope as an option for my new carbine .308, basically to swap back and forth with my 3-12x S&B when I want light and handy in the woods and potentially as a 3-Gun heavy rig, so I'll be watching this for more details. Is the whole ocular housing twisted for adjusting the magnification? When not running the illumination, how obvious is the reticle on 1x if the illumination is having issues with the eye box and positioning?

My mount is not canted unless there was an error in packaging at Larue. I did some more dry practice last night in my finished basement and at those distances (10y and less) I again did not have an issue with illumination. I also ran my t1 in the same drill and found that I preferred the look of the dot on the Leupold... and that the Leupold may have actually been faster (anecdotal, I did not use a timer.) it is starting to look more and more like the reticle issue at 1x is a non factor up close and may have something to do with the way the eye focuses on a further target.

The magnification ring is large enough to grab with your whole hand but enough of it at the back where the diopter is is fixed, which I like because it allows the use of Butler Creek caps.

Finally, upon pulling it out of the safe I noticed that the illumination was still on 5/7, about 28 hours later. It did not appear any dimmer.

Ps- the reticle COULD be used at 1x with no illumination, but I believe there would be a noticeable drop in speed.

Thanks for the answers. The CQBSS turns the whole ocular housing including the screw in caps, which I both like and dislike. If I can get a full hand purchase on the ocular to adjust the magnification with gloves, yet not turn the caps, that is a significant bonus. I'm not overly concerned with the speed with no illumination at 1x, more wanting to make sure it doesn't disappear from view since it's a FFP scope. I'm looking at usage in the woods so I know it could get lost into the brush and whatnot too.

I think I'll pull the trigger on one with the 7.62 CMR-W once the Leupold store comes back online on Promotive.
