will do, someone offered a partial trade for a scope i have in the for sale section, a USO, I don't know anything about them other than they are expensive and what I read on the above link. Ill check out Killswitch's test. Thanks.
Agree on price. Their published MSRP was comically high, but Scott at Liberty Optics had some phenomenal deals on them several years back which made it a bit more approachable while the BEAST was on its perpetually delayed release. I also agree that after getting used to a H59, the H58 is a bit thick.
Got Mark 8, "pinch' turrets and H58; how do I feel about it? Glass is great, scope is solid, great quality, good tracking. Both turrets have the "pinch" system; the windage turret clicks feels great; the elevation turret clicks are a bit mushy but not a deal breaker. Some shooters are OK with the "pinch" system, some others cannot stand it. As everything, it has its pros and cons. Great illumination system with the alternated on/off. The reticle is definitely on the thick side and I thought it could be an issue but it still allowed very precise shots such as cutting a chain holding a target at 200 meters (was bored). The H58 reticle will not disappear in front of dark woods/dark areas, requiring engaging the illuminated reticle. In short, if you want to do the "one holer/5 shots" at 100 yards, it may not be the best choice but on a more tactical aspect, this scope and reticle will deliver; of course, this is just my opinion.
Thanks for the help everyone. It seems like a great scope but I don't think I can choose it over a SB. Especially with the deals everywhere now. Just picked up a new one from eurooptic for 2400!!!! Crazy.
I know this is an older thread but any more thoughts or reviews on this optic? They seem like good quality but terribly priced... Any insight would be helpful.
You pretty much said it all. A solid entry from Leupold (the first in a while at the time) but priced out of being competitive.
I have one with the "pinch" turrets, and h58 reticle. I agree with the above statements. I'm not a huge fan of the pinch turret design or the h58. But after using it in will say it's an awesome scope. The zerostop is easy to adjust, but the turrets are pretty "mushy". They can be heard, but feel like a soft "tick" instead of a tactile "CLICK".
Gotcha, I appreciate the comment there, no "issues" though as far as tracking or functionality overall?

Not really anything so far. But when I recieved the scope, the zerostop was set half way through the total elevation. With the optic in Badger rings set on a Badger dead level I spun the turret through the remaining elevation adjustment. I noticed the last .5 mil (or 5 clicks) of the elevation didn't move the reticle. I thought this was strange and called Leupold and the 1st rep didn know anything about the MK8 had to get a different rep to basically tell me it was "normal operation with respect to where the zerostop was set". Since it was the last .5 mil of total adjustment I figured it'd be ok and mounted the optic.

The Mark 8 has phenomenal glass quality up there with the best. The m5b2 turrets weren't great, but functioned well enough. The m5c2 is a solid performer. Plays with all the other top scopes. The scope can take a beating. The problem is that leupold prices everything so high for the average Joe. If you don't care about illumination, it's definitely the scope to buy.
Thanks for the response too. Theses eems to be at about the 7-35 ATACR price point new, reticle dependent so it makes the choice tough. Once you get to that 2500+ price things level off as far as quality and it seems like every small thing is a deciding factor.
Do you still use the MK8?
I do. My rifles are topped with us optics or leupold. The leupold has better glass but I like the turrets better on the USOs. I feel they are the best turrets of any scope.
Im actually selling mine at the moment. Great scope but i agree with everyone else on turrets.
