I bought an old school MK4 M-1 fixed 10 with a premier Mil dot reticle back in the day (1994). Recently I've been getting the itch to up my long game and I'm thinking I want something newer with More magnification. Can the fixed 10x MK4's still be competitive?
I'm thinking I want to get a Gen II PST but not sure if I want to got the 5-25X of stay down in the lower x range.

thoughts?

Back in the day 10x was plenty. Still is, if you're after meter size targets at supersonic ranges (the old Sac Valley B-27 target to 1k). The challenge is shooters have gotten better and you have to spread out the bell curve to prevent ties at the top. The easiest way to do that is smaller targets at longer ranges. To see sub-moa plates at extended ranges more magnification helps. You can still do it but you're getting more dependent on a bit of luck, like good light on the targets. My original Bushnell SS10x42M still resides on a .308 and gets used regularly. Everyone who shoots it likes it. At plus-moa targets.

15 or 20 max power scopes go with me to comps. Keep shooting.

My eyes are not getting any better, so the extra magnification is nice...

I'm actually thinking of going with MOA as I'm more comfortable and go the 5-25X as I can always dial down, but I can increase past 15-18X.
