I am still playing with mine. Shot out to 828yards last days off. First shot was off due to incorrect solution from program (operator error) but was easily able to see the bullet impact and make immediate second shot correction. I am liking so far, and the Horus reticle is not too busy in my opinion.

I just saw where Leupold charged my card last week so I'm guessing mine will be here this week.....I placed the order in sept 2012 and have been patiently waiting.......I do have the Mk8 in the 1.1-8x on an AR platform and love the turrents, it does take a while to get used to them but I think they are a winner.
It figures there will me a TMR reticle in the future........I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who prefers the TMR, as soon as its available the scope is going back to switch out the Horus.

Took the mk8 to a 100 yd indoor range to get it zeroed. The h58 did not hamper shooting 100yd small groups at all if you are into that kind of thing. Backed off to around 18x. The main crosshairs may be a little thick for precision shots over 200 yards but if you use the thinner hold over lines it works like a charm....what it was designed for. Going to take it out in the next week to ring some steel out at 1000. Really digging this scope so far.
Took it out to 1000 yards today. I'm very impressed with the glass quality. Looked through it and my 5-25sb at 1000 yds and it was a toss up.
The mk8 did have a small yellow ring on the very edges at 25x. The sb also had a slightly wider field of view. The mk8 had an extremely sharp and clear image at 1000yds in the 98 degree Texas heat. When backed of to 3x it was like looking through an acog. Stunning that leupold put this together. Was told they used Schott glass on this and the mk6. Also I'm sold on the h58. A nice feature is the MTC type detent every 5 mils...so if for instance you are shooting a 308 at 1000 and need 10 mils holdover, you can quickly turn the turret to its 5 mil detent and use the five mil holdover at 25x and you've got your ten mils.

A friend of mine who is an avid S&B user tested a Mark8 prototype a few years ago next to some S&B's, and claimed the Leupold was the clearest scope he had ever looked through. I am glad others are finding them to be just as clear, and am anxiously awaiting mine to be delivered.

Question for you guys who shoot tactical and long range with the cool guy scopes.
I have been rifle hunting for 28 years (since I was 14), and have just recently started stepping up to higher quality gear (my two kids have gotten the majority of my money).
I have had a Leupold VX-III in 6.5-20x50 w. fine X for about 8 years on a semi-custom gun that took me two years to build. I built it thinking I would get drawn for antelope soon (which I still have not drawn in AZ with 21 bonus points now and 19 years). I love it, and I like dialing in my yardages with the single crosshair. I have my ballistics down and a chart on the scope in 25 yd. increments out to 1000 with drop in inches and MOA. Used it to take my deer last year at 488 yds. with no problem.
I have also recently purchased a couple Vortex Viper HS with the BDC reticles, but still dial in my yardages with the main crosshair.
My question is this...do you actually use the holdovers or do you normally dial in the main crosshairs to known range off a ballistics chart and hold dead on?

Should have clarified...I don't mind dropping $1-2K for a good scope, but I don't really think I need an amazing $4K scope at this time....maybe once the kids are gone!

I know the difference, and I understand why they are more desirable, but does the main crosshair growing in the sight picture obscure more of the target at long distances, and does it bother you at all? Does it make that much of a difference? Like does a .5MOA crosshairs at 800 yds. cover too much?

The one you stumbled upon on ebay is mine. Price is so high because between the ebay and the Paypal fees combined being around $600 I had to put the starting price that high so I wasn't giving it away. If anyone is interested let me know, it will be a far sight cheaper.

Im using American Rifle Company medium height rings, although I accidentally ordered a Leupold mk8 IMS when I ordered my scope, if someone needs it let me know.
If your mounting it to an AR platform rifle the ADM mounts would work great. If your mounting it to a bold rifle the 1.0" center height rings tend to work very well (SEEKINS, Leupold, USO, Badger).

Ok so I have had a chance to play with the mk8 for a week or so now, overall I like the locking turrents, zero stop and the glass in the scope.....I mounted itin badger medium rings and have plenty of room on a medium Palma barrel contour. I'm not too thrilled about the MTC feature and find it hard to dial either 5.1 or 4.9 and you have to reposition your hand to keep the dial turning. It seems to track perfectly and almost no tunneling on the lowest power, very very slightly but not a big issue for me.
I'm also not too thrilled about the H-58 reticle and will plan on shipping it back for a TMR once it's available, in short I really like the scope but am not thrilled about the reticle, I have been shooting the TMR for so many years its just different at this point.
Overall fit, finish and quality appear excellent.

Does it feel "tight" and solid like a Euro optic? Or do things feel "looser". Not sure how to describe this.
My S&B and Premiers... feel like every part is held really tightly together at super high tolerances or something. Then I go to pick up say... a scope built in the Philippines or China... and all the moving parts just feel "looser" and less heavily constructed. Does that make sense to anyone?
It feels tight and solid to me, the reticle does not disappear quite as bad as a schmibt with a hours reticle as I can remember, other then the MTC positions the click values are definitely positive.....it looks more like a European optic than a Leupold in my opinion.

If you ordered through Leupold on the Mil/LE they only charge when it ships.......it should only be a couple more days.....I heard they were going to start shipping their inventory so it sounds like the wait is not too bad, BTW I saw a couple of these out at the recent Score High match so they are getting out there pretty quick.
I think it will be worth taking a look when Leupold puts a decent reticle in it.

Did the rep mention whether it was the actual TMR reticle or was it the M-TMR reticle?
I'd be all in on the TMR...but I'm on the fence for the M-TMR that the 1.1-8x has...maybe if someone has a link that describes how the additional marks work...
I asked about the tmr, he said something about releasing a reticle batch so I wouldn't be surprised if the tmr, tremor or whatever else they do are offered

Now that Leupold is getting closer to making this with a usable reticle (TMR), with the release of the Tremor2 I'm beginning to lust for one to sit atop a Trg 42. Unfortunately no one in my area will ever stock one of these, I had to special order in my Mark 6. I've been overwhelmingly pleased with it but am somewhat confused when looking at pics of the 8. Can someone who's dongles both of them speak to the robustness of the 8. It looks more like a mk4 with the turrets off of the mk6. I love to mag ring and overall heft of my mk6. And am just hoping the new mk8 wouldn't disappoint comparatively.

Sorry to hijack the thread- if it casues someone to have kittens, Ill move it.
Im having some issues adjusting the windage on my new Mk8.
I can zero the scope for windage but once I loosen the the turret set-screw and rotate the turret and bezel to the zero mark - and then lock the set screw- I have almost no right windage left. The instructions that come with the scope and that are online are not helping to clarify what's going on. The scope base is flat and bedded (Seekins 20MOA) and the rings (Badger) recently held a Vortex Razor on this rifle with no issues. How do I reset the windage stop? Or is something else going on? Yep, and dropped it off last week.
Got it back yesterday and will mount it tonight.
I also picked up a Single piece 35mm Leupold scope mount.
I'll post back when it's mounted.
Nah, not old news at all....I just haven't taken it out beyond 300 yds yet.
