hello all,
i will be new to long dist. shooting. i have put in a lot of time with a dpms lr .308 at 200 yards and its starting to get repetitive. i just got a remington 700 5r 24", and want to shoot out to 600 and better, while also useing it for hunting. question is what would be a good optic for my needs. iv herd from local forums that the mk4 lr/t is a nice one, but havent been able to find one with matching turrets/reticel (mil/mil or moa/moa). just from browsing around it sounds like it would be a little more convenient. any suggestions would be very helpful. price range is around 1k, give or take alittle.
thanks coby

I would suggest you also look at the Vortex PST line. They offer a 4-16x50 and 6-24x50. You can get them in FFP or SFP with moa/moa or mil/mil.

The 4.5-14x50 is offered with mil/mil in the Mark-4 ER/T line in FFP. The Leupold TMR reticle is nice.

Most standared MarkIV are Mil Reticle with MOZA Turrents. You can go used and pick a Markiv up for $900-$1,000 and then send it in to Leupold for a M5 turrent conversion for like $170.

Or buy a scope already confirured this way the 4.5-14 Extended Range which is a FFP Scope for like $1,699.

I have a standard MarkIV with the TMR reticle on my AR-10 and might send it in for the turrent conversion but converting MOA to Mil is not that difficult expecially in a hunting environment as you will probably laser range the game dial in the corrections and send it. This is what I do and it works fine....

I shoot the Mark 4 M5 ERT 4.5-14x50 on my 300winmag out to 1200yds. It has been a fantastic optic for me. Solid tracking and awesome glass. The TMR reticle is one of the best on the market as well. Having the open center is really a benefit I think.

I have the 4-14X50 and it has been a great scope. But I wont be buying another till Leupold gets a little more competitive. I also have a PST 4-16 and love it just a little bit more because of its MIL/MIL FFP features. But I also have the SS 5-20, and it is better than both the other two.

Would recommend slightly more magnification, if you're going be shooting out to 1000 yards. Really don't need FFP unless you need it for ranging. Decide what you want and try to find one used. Many scopes for sale on this forum. Good luck.
